Tennis Made Simple, led by Certified Tennis Professional Val Stoiana, provides camps, private lessons, and classes, geared toward children and adults of all levels and abilities. The five-week spring sessions starts the week of March 31 at The Heritage Hotel in Southbury. Adults may enroll in the new player group lesson special — ten classes for $100.

As a junior, Stoiana, was nationally ranked in his home country of Romania. He went on to play NCAA Division I college tennis at St. John’s University. But it wasn’t till he moved to Southbury 20 years ago, and became certified, that a full time tennis coaching career, began to unfold.

From 1997-1999 Coach Val (as he is known) was the boys tennis coach at Newtown High School, leading his team to an South-West Conference title. In 2002, he became the head tennis professional at the Heritage Hotel, in Southbury. By 2005 he began branding himself through a new program called Tennis Made Simple.

“I started my career coaching a handful of nationally ranked and aspiring high school, college- and tournament-level players. My client list kept growing so I adjusted my training to accommodate new and returning players. Tennis can be brutally competitive but when you add music and fun drills it becomes very appealing. There is less emphasis on competition, and more on fitness and fun. I do offer specific tips but we usually keep it light and non-technical,” Stoiana said.

The goal is to hit many balls, bounce to the music, unplug, and get an amazing high energy workout. The learning part takes care of itself.” He adds.

Players learn correct grips, how to time the ball, and what proper swing shape should look like.
