Nancy Baily and Marty Sherman of Pomperaug Valley Garden Club, in conjunction with the C.H. Booth Library and the Town and Country Garden Club of Newtown, will present the Nova film The Incredible Journey of the Butterflies at C.H. Booth Library on Wednesday, May 18. The screening will begin promptly at 6:30 pm.

The program will be followed by a discussion of the current status of the Monarchs along with information on gardening to support the butterflies as well as the International Monarch Waystation.

The Monarch butterfly population has declined by 90 percent in the last two decades, primarily because of the loss of milkweed habitat - a species the Monarchs need to lay their eggs. Conservation projects have been started around the country to save the butterflies.

This program is open to the public and will offer an opportunity to learn more about the "most iconic butterfly in North America." An informational display, created and shared by Pomperaug Valley Garden Club, has also been put on view on the main floor of the library, 25 Main Street in Newtown.

Reservations are not needed for the program, but additional information is available from Liz Arneth, at 203-405-6470.
