Newtown Winter Percussion Wins MAC Championship
Newtown Winter Percussion closed out its season with a first place performance at the April 14 Musical Arts Conference (MAC) Percussion Championship competition at Westhill High School in Stamford.
The day began with the "Breakfast of the Champions," a 27-family breakfast potluck to celebrate the participants, staff, parents, pit crew, and volunteers involved in the program this season. Following the meal, the group had a full day of practice, culminating in the evening's competition.
The group performed its show "Moving Forward" that night, and Newtown earned first place and the MAC championship title in the Scholastic A division with a score of 94.7, completing a nearly undefeated season.
Although the winter season of Newtown Percussion and Guard has wrapped, plans are already in the works for the fall season of Newtown Band & Guard. An orientation meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 4, at 7 pm, in the Newtown High School auditorium. Interested Newtown students who will be in seventh to twelfth grade in the fall, who are interested in joining NHS Marching Band and Color Guard, should attend the meeting to learn more about the fall marching band season.
Questions about participating in the marching band and guard should be directed to the Newtown High School Band Parents Corporation at info@NHSBandGuard.com. For more information about the NHS Band and Guard, visit newtownbandandguard.weebly.com.
