Newtown Historical Society is currently accepting applications for its 2014 Summer History Camp. The camp will be hosted at The Matthew Curtiss House, 44 Main Street, the week of July 14-18. Registration is open for children between the ages of 8-10 and offers campers a week of interactive and exciting experiences of Colonial-era life.

From lantern-making to butter churning, kids will engage in activities and experiences of a Colonial child living during the 1750s. Campers will learn the tasks they might have been expected to do at home, the types of games they would have played, and the kind of food they would have eaten during the mid-18th Century.

Some of the highlights include baking treats with an open hearth in Curtiss House kitchen and making costumes to gain a sense of what Colonial children wore. Kids will have the opportunity to participate in living history demonstrations and explore the recreation of centuries past.

Cost of the camp is $150 per child ($135 for Newtown Historical Society).

For reservations, send a nonrefundable $25 deposit (which will be applied to the camp fee) payable to Newtown Historical Society to Gordon Williams, 601B Heritage Village, Southbury CT 06488. For additional information, visit newtownhistory.org or call Mr Williams at 203-405-6392.
