Alastair Moock, a 2014 Grammy nominee, will be performing at Dickinson Park on Tuesday, July 29, headlining the penultimate performance of .this year’s Summer Jam Concert Series

Summer Jam concerts are held Tuesdays at 12:30 pm in the bandshell at Dickinson Park, 50 Elm Drive. Picnic lunches and blankets are encouraged.

Mr Moock hails from Boston, but will be visiting Newtown in a roundabout way: He was scheduled to perform on Monday at Maine Children’s Hospital.

His latest release is Singing Our Way Through: Songs for the World’s Bravest Kids. The collection reportedly grew out of songs co-written with his daughter after she was diagnosed with leukemia in 2012 (she’s doing great). Mr Moock and daughter Clio sang and wrote together while she was in the hospital. Mr Moock continued to write and collect songs, and then with the help of “an amazing fundraising campaign,” according to his website, the songs were collected and published into the album that was nominated for a 2014 Grammy Award for Best Children’s Album of the Year.

He is also a Parents’ Choice Winner and three-time National Parenting Publications Awards (NAPPA) Gold Medal Winner.

Summer Jam Concert Series performances are hosted by Newtown Parks & Recreation. Admission is free.

The 2014 series will conclude next week, on August 5, with a performance by returning artist and fan favorite, Cincinnati-based Grammy nominated Zak Morgan. Mr Morgan concluded Summer Jam last year with a witty and heartfelt performance that endeared children and parents alike.
