On Sunday, August 31, the Edmond Town Hall Theatre will screen Goodbye, Mr Chips as part of the 2014 Sunday Cinema Series, presented by Newtown Cultural Arts Commission.  Tickets for all shows are $2. Screenings are planned for 1, 4 and 7 pm.

Based on the novel by James Hilton, Goodbye, Mr Chips tells the story of a man’s life transformed by pupils and colleagues during his lifelong teaching career, and especially by an idyllic romance.  Robert Donat won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and his co-star Greer Garson garnered her first Academy Award Best Actress nomination.

The Goodbye, Mr Chips screening is made possible by private sponsors David and Marjorie Nelson, and additionally supported by Newtown Friends of Music.

All proceeds will go to the Edmond Town Hall theater improvements.

The next program in the series, on September 21, will be a part of the Newtown Arts Festival “ridiculous abundance of enriching activities."

The September program will offer two films, with Mr Smith Goes to Washington, starring James Stewart, at 1 and 7 pm (sponsored by Law Offices of James O. Gaston), and Dark Victory, starring Bette Davis, at 4 pm.
