Griffin Hospital Launches

Health Empowerment Series

Derby — Learn from the experts at the Health Empowerment Series designed to encourage attendees to be active participants in their health care and to educate them on some of the latest treatments and procedures being used at Griffin Hospital.

The upcoming Health Empowerment Series includes:

Arthritis and Joint Pain on three consecutive dates at 2:30 pm: Tuesday, October 14; Wednesday, November 12; and Tuesday, December 9.

Dr Ignatius Komninakas, board certified orthopedic physician with advanced training in the latest hip and knee replacement techniques, will discuss arthritis and other causes of joint pain, medications and treatments, including minimally invasive techniques and the latest surgical advances.

Griffin’s Joint Replacement Center offers a comprehensive, focused approach to the care and treatment of persons undergoing hip and knee joint replacement, properly preparing them for surgery and offering a coordinated after-care program.

“Sleep Problems — No More Counting Sheep!” will be presented Wednesday, October 15, at 6:30 pm, by Dr K. Marya Chaisson, director of Griffin’s Sleep Wellness Center.

Dr Chaisson will answer questions and give attendees more insight into the causes of sleep problems and ways to get a good night’s sleep. Dr Chaisson is board certified in sleep medicine, internal medicine, critical care and pulmonary disease, giving her a broad scope of expertise.

Other dates and topics include:

“Burn, Baby, Burn — From Heartburn to Ulcers” by Dr Harold Schwartz on Tuesday, October 28;

“Advances in Multiple Sclerosis” by Dr Joseph Guarnaccia on Tuesday, November 4;

“Going Tobacco Free” by Dr Dominick Casablanca and behavioral counselor Mary Mascolo on Wednesday, November 19;

“Fertility 101” by Dr Gad Lavy on Thursday, December 4;

“The Long and Winding Road — Things You should know About Your Colon” on Thursday, December11; and

“Advances in Cancer Care” by Dr Leland Soto on Wednesday, December 17.
