Celia and Romy Gold, of Newtown, competed in the USA Weightlifting Junior National Championships on February 20. The competition took place at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Valley Forge, Penn.

Celia, a senior at Newtown High School, earned three silver medals, her total was 176 kilograms (76 Snatch, 100 Clean and Jerk). Celia is ranked second in the nation in the 63 kilogram weight category (female, Junior) and is first reserve for the Pan American Junior Championship. She still has a chance of making the Junior World Championship team.

Romy, a sophomore at Newtown High, although considered a youth, competed in Juniors with Celia. She did not medal but her total 152 kilograms (68 Snatch and 84 Clean and Jerk) landed her a ranking of second in the nation in the 58 kilogram category (female, Youth). She has a chance at making the IWF Youth Worlds (Malaysia) and the Pan American Youth Championships (Chile).

Their coach, Kurt Kling, of from Crossfit RedZone, was instrumental in these accomplishments.
