An austere black and white collection of images of those who were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012 has been temporarily installed in the entrance hall at Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street, to mark the fifth year since the tragedy took the lives of 20 children and six brave educators.

A memo circulated by First Selectman Dan Rosenthal states, "As we approach five years since the Sandy Hook tragedy, we wanted you to be aware of the plan this year to honor and remember the victims."

The exhibit, Mr Rosenthal said, was installed in a coordinated effort with the families of loss, and will be available for public viewing during the week of December 11.

"A welcome message advises community and staff who pass through the halls of the Municipal Center to take a moment to be reflective, to recollect and remember in kindness and love those children and adults who died that day," the first selectman wrote.

The collection of photographs will remain on view until the end of business Friday, December 15.

Additionally, he stated, on December 14, all municipal offices, departments, and agencies will be closed from 9:30 to 9:45 am for a brief period of silence and reflection in honor and remembrance.

"We ask that you, too, join in this brief respite to honor those who were lost on that day," Mr Rosenthal said. "Lastly, there will be an interfaith service at Trinity Church beginning at 7 pm, and St Rose Church will hold a Mass beginning at 7:30 pm. All are welcome to attend."
