Spector To Present Program For SCAN
The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have an internationally famous artist demonstrating figure painting in oil for its next program.
Joel Spector will be at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street, on Wednesday, November 12. The program will begin at 7:30 pm in the building’s lower level. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
Mr Spector has been creating and exhibiting portraits, oil paintings, silverpoint drawings and illustrations nationally and internationally for decades, and is well-known for his images of elegance. Many of his work can be found in prominent collections. As an artist he is sought after for creating commissioned portraits.
After graduating from Fashion Institute of Technology and earning his MFA at Western Connecticut State University, Mr Spector started out in the field of fashion illustration. He has produced illustrations for many prominent national and international brands. His work has been published in books, children’s books, magazines, newspapers, advertising and annual reports.
Mr Spector’s honors include awards from the Portrait Society of America, Pastel Society of America, Society of Illustrators, and Oil Painters of America. Japanese television has produced a documentary showing his vibrant methodical illustration process.
Mr Spector has completed a series of murals for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and the John Pettibone Children’s Library. He has taught at Fashion Institute of Technology, Wooster Community Center for the Arts, Western Connecticut State University, and at several art societies.
