Gregory Van Ert

Gregory Van Ert, 57, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, of Sandy Hook and Edenton, N.C., died September 16 at his home in Sandy Hook, with his family by his side. He was the husband of Marita K. (Reams) Van Ert.

Mr Van Ert was born October 25, 1946, in Norfolk, Neb., son of Lambert H. Van Ert of Kansas and the late Blossom M. (Hall) Van Ert. He graduated from Valley Center High School, Valley Center, Kan., and was a 1968 graduate of Ottawa University, Ottawa, Kan., with a bachelor’s degree in economics. Retired, Mr Van Ert’s career was with IBM where he worked in Tokyo and several locations up and down the Eastern seaboard.

Besides his wife and father, he is survived by a daughter, Kara L. (Van Ert) Mehler and her husband Peter of New Fairfield; a son, Eric G. Van Ert of New York; a sister, Karen J. Van Ert of Denver, Colo.; two grandchildren, Peter and Elizabeth Mehler; and two nephews, Phillip Minson and Adam Opheim.

A Funeral Mass was held September 22 at St Rose Church, Church Hill Road, Newtown. Burial was in St Rose Cemetery, Newtown.
