Christmas Trees Arrive For Annual Sandy Hook Fire Fundraiser
The day after Thanksgiving was a bustle of continued holiday activity at Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue’s main station on Riverside Road. The highlight of the day was the arrival of hundreds of Christmas trees, which will serve as the centerpiece for one of the company's annual fundraisers.
When the long truck full of hundreds of trees from Fontaine Farm in Vermont arrived in Newtown around 4:30 pm on Friday, November 28, thanks to C.A.T.S. Brothers Trucking of Sandy Hook, volunteers bustled to unload the evergreens. A second, smaller delivery arrived later in the afternoon, carrying the final collection of trees. The company has 575 Christmas trees available for purchase this year.
As fire department members climbed on top of the heaping load of trees, they passed them one by one off the back and over the sides to waiting hands. More volunteers then propped the trees up in rows at the firehouse lot.
Sales began that night. Hours are Monday through Friday, 6-9 pm; and Saturday and Sunday, 9 am-9 pm.
The sale also offers wreaths, and a limited supply of kissing balls, cemetery boxes, and pine roping. The sale will continue until Christmas Eve or while supplies last.
Proceeds from the sales directly benefit Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, one of five volunteer fire companies that serve Newtown.
