On Saturday, December 20, at 7 pm, Quiet Life will headline the ninth show in Newtown’s Live at the Edmond Town Hall series.

Sparks flew when Quiet Life formed in New London, where New England meets the Sound. From there, the group ran down a dream to the California coast, and then fled for the northwestern charm of Portland, Ore. Just a pair of brothers and a few good friends in a van that runs on waste veggie oil.

The band — Sean W. Spellman, Ryan Spellman, Thor Robert Jensen, and Philippe Bronchtein — has since toured with Dr Dog, Alabama Shakes, The Lumineers, The Head and The Heart. Their most recent EP, Housebroken Man, guest stars Jim James (“My Morning Jacket”) and Cary Ann Hearst (“Shovels and Rope”). It is a record that embodies the spirit of their live show, replete with fuzzed-out Leslie-simulated pedal-steel guitar pedals and twangy modified vintage amplifiers. In the end it remains true to the aesthetics of roots rock and roll.

Opening on December 20 will be The Korey Brodsky Band, based in Newtown. The group features 2013 International Bluegrass Music Association Youth All-Star and perennial contest winner Korey Brodsky on both guitar and mandolin, and recent Berklee summer program scholarship award recipient Sofia Chiarandini on fiddle and lead vocal. The band is rounded out with extraordinary multi-instrumentalist Dick Neal, innovative and cutting-edge mandolin player Michael Sassano, and veteran upright bass player Rick Brodsky.

Organized by Newtown resident Hayden Bates, the Live at Edmond Town Hall series continues to raise funds for ongoing renovations and upgrades at the historic building at 45 Main Street. Previous guests have included The Low Anthem, Bill Frisell and Sam Amidon, Brown Bird, Phosphorescent, Fred Hersch, Autumn Defense, and Mark Kozelek.
