See Hydrogen Fuel Cell Demonstration
Students in Don Ramseyâs eighth grade technology education class experienced âhydrogen fuel cellâ technology thanks to Josh Milas, who facilitated the visit by his uncle, Gary W. Miller, senior technical advisor for Spring Advanced Technologies, a subsidiary of SPIRIG Inc.
Josh brought his uncle in to assist for his technology education project to develop an interactive lesson on a special area of technology in the real world.
Mr Miller demonstrated how hydrogen separates from oxygen in distilled water with an electrical charge to release a flammable gas that ignites a precision soldering torch for circuit board components. Hydrogen fuel cell technology also offers great promise for transportation in the future. Already, major automotive industries have put together concept cars and prototypes for demonstration.
Mr Ramsey credits his students for raising the bar on learning by teaching their own unique lessons on technology to peers. He points out that students have connections to people in the world of technology and serve as important resources for greater knowledge in the field as opposed to staying only within the boundaries of the classroom. âJosh really surprised us with this one,â he said, referring to Mr Miller as the guest speaker.
