Dr John M. Popowich, DC, DABCN, QME, a local physician, recently completed a one year, seven-module clinical course in child development disorders certification. The program took place at Bentley University in Waltham, Mass., with 175 hours of instruction, lectures and clinical applications.
The course was instructed by Dr Robert Melillo from The Carrick Institute for Graduate Studies. Dr Melillo is an internationally recognized author, professor, and researcher with an expertise in neurology, rehabilitation, neuropsychology, neuroscience and nutrition, parenting and childhood developmental disorders
This program offers nonsurgical, nondrug treatments for child development disorders such as ADHD, dyslexia and other development disorders. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) over the last 12 years, the prevalence of development disorders (DD) has increased 17.1 percent â that is about 1.8 million more children with DDs in 2006â2008 compared to a decade earlier; prevalence of autism increased 289.5 percent, prevalence of ADHD increased 33 percent over the same period.
