Flora Story, 84, widow of Clyde Story, of Sandy Hook, died peacefully on August 20, in Danbury Hospital.

She was born in Cornwall on February 3, 1922, one of 11 children of Gilbert and Ella (Storm) VanValkenburgh. Mrs Story was the eldest member of the Native American Schaghticoke Tribal Nation. She lived most of her life in Newtown and Sandy Hook.

She retired from Harvey Hubbell Manufacturing and then worked as the housekeeping manager at The Stony Hill Inn until recent years.

Mrs Story had a variety of interests and hobbies. She was especially proud of her beautiful flower gardens. She knitted, crocheted, enjoyed country music, followed golf, and was a UConn Huskies fan.

Mrs Story was a longtime member of St John’s Episcopal Church in Sandy Hook and most recently she served on the Vestry and as treasurer of the church. Her family was the most important part of her life. She was loved and will be missed by all.

Mrs Story is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ervin and Sharon Story of Woodbury; two daughters, Beverly Dunifon who resided with her mother in Sandy Hook, and Debi Taylor and her husband Christian of New Milford; four grandchildren, Kyle Story of Woodbury, Frecia Ammons and her husband Michael of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Jodi Lennon and her husband Douglas Stolle of Long Island City, N.Y., and John Lennon of Albuquerque, N.M.; and two great-grandchildren,  Julia and Sawyer Ammons. She also leaves her longtime friend Gladys Ingram.

Funeral services were conducted on August 24 at St John’s Episcopal Church in Sandy Hook. Interment followed in Zoar Cemetery.
