Sandy Hook Volunteers Say Thanks

To The Editor:

On behalf of the members of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company we would like to thank the following people for making our Fire Prevention Open House on Sunday, October 3, 1999 a success.

First we would like to thank Liz Cain, Lynn Ceccarelli, Will Johnston, Judy LaCroix and Carol Mayhew of the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance for giving tours, taking blood pressures and assisting with our demonstrations. Also, to Mitchell Farm for donating the hay and pumpkins to help decorate the firehouse for the season. We would like to express our appreciation to Duracell Corp. for the donation of batteries and Phillip E. Johnson from the State DEP for the many handouts which made our information tables both informative and interesting. Also to Jennifer Tani for her excellent videotaping of the event and to Erwin Potter for donating office supplies to make our signs. As always, a big thank-you to our Ladies Auxiliary, for their great desserts and assistance.

Our demonstration could not have been such a huge success without the help of the following people. First, we would like to thank the State Police, Troop A, for bringing the Convincer and for all of their informative information on child safety seats. To John Plofkin of Shipman’s Fire Equipment for letting us borrow the Thermal Imaging Camera for our search and rescue demonstration. We would also like to thank the Waterwitch Hose Co. of New Milford for bringing down the kids’ safety trailer. Last but not least, to Newtown Exxon and Newtown Car Care for donating the cars and to Sue Nute, Lauren Nute and Jessica Lee for being our victims which made our demonstrations so real and such a great success.

Finally, we would like to thank everyone involved in helping with the Open House. We hope that all who attended had a good time and learned something and we hope to see you all again.

Sincerely,

B.J. Halstead, Karen Halstead,

Bob Nute, Scott Lee, and Henry Velthuizen
