Film Series To Coincide With Exhibition—

Artists From Three Counties Featured In ‘Atelier III’

NEW FAIRFIELD — “Atelier III,” the annual member artist exhibition at Boyajian Sculpture Barn, features contemporary works created on site in master sculptor David Boyajian’s Atelier. Additionally, the exhibit introduces local audiences to a documentary film series on Great Sculptors. Admission is free.

The exhibit is on view until October 29 in the gallery at the sculpture barn, 3 Milltown Road.

“Atelier III” showcases new sculpture in steel, bronze, aluminum, stainless steel, copper and stone. Fairfield County artists showing their works include Madeleine Boucher, the artist known as Cici, Eric Camiel, David Gesualdi, Ben Glotzer, Daniel Lynch, Michael Ramseur, Richard Sawicki, Nancy Smith, Marcia Spivak and Sculpture Barn resident artist Shannon Tamsin.

Artists from neighboring Putnam and Westchester Counties include B.A. D’Alessandro, Jodi Carlson, Ted Rotante, Louis Slovinsky and Barbara Landau-Stogo. In addition, David Boyajian will unveil his newest steel and stainless steel outdoor sculptures on his four-acre sculpture field, and his teenage son, Gabe, will exhibit his welded work along with the member artists.

With over 50 pieces representing a contemporary approach to traditional media, the art of “Atelier III” ranges from Ms Boucher’s abstract stone sculptures and hammered copper masks by Cici to Ms Carlson’s playful wall reliefs made from found aluminum road signs.

Marcia Spivak is showing abstract horse sculptures and Richard Sawicki has added large scale modern steel structures to the exhibition. Ms Tamsin’s 100-foot long installation, “One Blinking Thing After Another,” is incised with poetry and will be part of the opening reception performance.

 “When you see the quality and variety of the ‘Atelier III’ works, you’ll be surprised at their creators’ backgrounds. They include a former theology professor, a real estate agent, a filmmaker, graphic designers, a high school student, a onetime media executive, a poet and other professionals. All of them are genuine artists,” said Mr Boyajian. “I help them realize their unique visions in my studio, and it’s my pleasure to show their work in the gallery. The Great Sculptors documentary series adds an educational dimension to the exhibition.”

 

Gallery As Film Theater

On three Friday nights on October, the gallery will become a theater showing documentary films about 20th Century sculpture. Designed to educate and entertain, two 25 minute films about Great Sculptors are to be shown each Friday night, followed by a group discussion.

Films are scheduled as followed: Alberto Giacometti and Jose De Creeft will be the featured artists on Friday, October 6; Henry Moore and Claes Oldenburg, October 20; Alexander Calder and Isamu Noguchi on October 27.

There is no showing on Friday, October 13.

Admission to The Great Sculptors film series is free, but the public is required to phone or email to reserve seats.

The Boyajian Sculpture Barn is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. It is located at the intersection of Milltown Road and Route 39, near the Danbury-Brewster, N.Y., line in New Fairfield.
