J. Robert âBobâ Carroll, 79, of Newtown, a former contractor and public works director, died December 3 at Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care, Danbury.
Mr Carroll was born in Danbury, May 11, 1917, a son of Joseph C. and Catherine (Hannan) Carroll, Sr. He attended Bethel schools and was a Navy veteran of World War II. Formerly of Bethel, he resided in Newtown for the last 20 years.
Known to most as Bob, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and enjoyed antique midget racing cars as a member of the Atlantic Coast Old Timers Racing Association. He was a 41-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous and gave much of his time to help others gain and maintain their sobriety.
Mr Carroll is survived by a son, David R. Carroll of Ridgefield; a daughter, Katrina A. Carroll of Washington, D.C.; daughter-in-law, Barbara Carroll; a brother, Joseph C. Carroll and his wife, Corrine, of Florida; a sister, Mary Beth Mihm and her husband, Bud, of California; a grandson, Christopher L. Carroll of Ridgefield; a granddaughter, Courtney A. Carroll of Virginia; and several nieces and a nephew. He is also survived by many wonderful friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated December 7 at St Maryâs Church, Bethel. Burial was in St Maryâs Cemetery, Bethel.
