‘Presidential Politics: Behind The Scenes’

SOUTHBURY — On Sunday, October 21, from 10 am until noon, The Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut will host a women’s brunch featuring special keynote speaker Iris Burnett. Ms Burnett will give a presentation titled “Presidential Politics: Behind the Scenes.”

The event will be held at the Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, 444 Main Street North.

Ms Burnett has played key roles in eight Presidential campaigns, serving as a political advisor to two Presidents and many elected officials. She also served as chief of staff at the United States Information Agency (USIA), the public diplomacy arm of the US government. In this role, she helped to develop global policy, and conducted special negotiations and consultations with foreign governments and their US embassies.

Ms Burnett also served as the primary communication channel to the White House, the Cabinet, the Congress, the nonprofit sector, and other government agencies.

Ms Burnett was also the senior vice president of corporate communications, public affairs and government relations for USA Networks and the Syfy Channel. Her academic experience includes a position as assistant professor at American University’s School of Communication, assistant professor at Boston University’s College of Liberal Arts, and special lecturer at Emerson College.

Ms Burnett is an executive producer for Kai Productions and Big Fish Big Pond, LLC, the executive producer of the award-winning documentary The Gefilte Fish Chronicles and author and editor of The Gefilte Fish Chronicles Companion Cookbook. She is also the co-author of The Gefilte Fish Chronicles: The Musical, to be staged at the Warner Theatre in Torrington in March.

This event is open to the public. Admission is $18 and includes a brunch by Jordan Caterers. Men are also welcome to attend.
