Police List Requirements For Snow/Ice Removal
Police Lieutenant George Sinko, head of the police departmentâs traffic unit, reminds residents of several laws that pertain to wintertime snow removal.
A town ordinance prohibits the parking of any vehicle on any town road between sunset and sunrise from November 15 through March 15 to facilitate snow removal by the town.
Also, a town ordinance requires residents to remove any snow, ice, sleet, or debris from sidewalks alongside roads adjacent to their homes.
Lt Sinko said that state law prohibits homeowners and snow removal companies from depositing snow or ice on any roadway or within 12 feet of a roadway.
Also, state law requires drivers to remove snow or ice accumulations from the top, back, and sides of all vehicles before they are driven. Snow and ice deposits that are left on vehicles can break loose from the vehicles while they are in motion, causing a hazard or nuisance to other drivers.
All windows of a vehicle must be cleared to provide an unobstructed view for its driver, the lieutenant adds.    Â
