Warrant Charges

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Kimberly Gontarz, 43, of East Haven went to the police station on the morning of November 22 and was charged with five offenses in connection with a past incident, police said.

Police charged Gontarz with second-degree failure to appear in court, failure to display a front marker plate, misuse of a marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to have automotive insurance. The motor vehicle charges stem from a March incident.

Police held Gontarz on bail for a November 22 appearance in Danbury Superior Court. Gontarz is now free on bail for a December 6 court appearance.

Main Street Crash

Motorist Jessy Jardeleza, 55, of Danbury was driving a 2005 Lexus RX-330 SUV southward near 39 Main Street about 5:11 pm on November 22 and then stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Lexus was struck from behind by southbound motorist Maria Kowarick, 47, of New Milford, who was driving a 1989 Toyota Camry sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Kowarick a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Subaru Vs Dodge

A two-vehicle accident took place at the intersection of Brushy Hill Road and Bentagrass Lane about 6:20 pm on November 21.

Police report that motorist Alyse Brautigam, 17, of 18 Bentagrass Lane, who was driving a 2001 Subaru Outback, was traveling eastward on Bentagrass Lane, as motorist Savita Trivendi, 47, of 150 Brushy Hill Road was driving a state-owned Dodge Stratus southward on Brushy Hill Road.

The Subaru then proceeded into the intersection and struck the Dodge, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Brautigam an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Sugar Street

About 4:30 pm on November 22, motorist Rachel Bolinsky, 21, of 3 Wiley Lane, was who driving a 2004 Toyota Prius, was traveling westward on Sugar Street behind a westbound 2002 Honda CRV driven by Kristine Beckman, 55, of 10 Sugar Hill Road, according to police.

The Honda then stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by the Toyota, police said.

Beckman and Toyota passenger Luisa Fritz Bolinsky, 53, were transported by ambulance volunteers to Danbury Hospital to be checked for pain, police said. Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the accident. Police said they issued Rachel Bolinsky an infraction for following too closely.

Mt Pleasant Road

Motorist R. Scudder Smith, 76, of 57 Elm Drive was driving a 1994 Lincoln Town Car sedan eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with Taunton Lake Road, about 8:38 pm on November 23, when a deer ran in front of the vehicle, resulting in a collision, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Youth Charged

Police report they received a call about 3:24 am on November 26 from a South Main Street resident reporting that a motor vehicle was missing, so they investigated.

Police located the vehicle and the youth who had taken it without permission, police said. No damage had occurred to the unspecified vehicle, which was returned to its owner, police said.

Police charged the youth with using a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission and with driving without a license.

Police released the youth into the custody of a guardian. The youth is scheduled to appear in court to answer the charges.

Because the person charged in the incident is under age 18, the youth’s identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.

DUI Incident

Police said that motorist Raymond Harris, 58, of 37 Dodgingtown Road was driving a vehicle on Queen Street, near Lorraine Drive, without having its headlamps illuminated at about 7:52 pm on November 23.

After investigating, police charged Harris with driving under the influence and with failure to illuminate headlamps. Harris posted $100 bail for a December 7 court appearance, police said.

Key Found

On November 14, a key for a Chevrolet motor vehicle and an attached electronic control device was found lying in the roadway at the intersection of Boggs Hill Road and Willow Brook Lane, according to police. Anyone with information on the ownership of the key is asked to contact police who are holding the item for safekeeping. Officer John McCluskey is investigating.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Robert Coffey, 28, of 10 Maple Drive went to the police station about 8:30 pm on November 25 and turned himself over to police.

Police said they charged Coffey with sixth-degree larceny in connection with the alleged theft of scrap metal from a property on July 21.

Police released Coffey on $250 bail for a December 8 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 

Sculpture Theft

Sometime between November 21 and 26, someone stole a sculpture made of aluminum that had been positioned outdoors at a residence on John Beach Road, police said. Police learned of the theft at about noon on November 26. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Exit 11 Ramp

Police report that they stopped motorist Wilson Vasquez, 28, of Danbury on the Exit 11 on-ramp for Interstate 84 about 4:15 pm on November 20 for driving a vehicle that had a cracked windshield.

After investigating, police charged Vasquez with driving a vehicle with a defective windshield, driving a vehicle with a suspended registration, and driving a vehicle without a license.

Vasquez was released on $400 bail for a December 1 court appearance.

 

DUI Case

Police report that at about 12:16 pm on November 23, they received a report that a motorist was driving a red Ford Explorer SUV erratically on South Main Street, near the Monroe town line, so they went to the area to investigate.

Police report that the vehicle was seen swerving over the road’s center lines while heading northward on South Main Street. Police said they stopped the vehicle to investigate and then charged motorist Nicholas Mahoney, 28, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

Following arrest processing, police released Mahoney on $100 bail for a December 6 court appearance.

Leaf Blower

At about 5 pm on November 19, an Echo-brand model PH-770 backpack-style leaf blower fell off a landscaping truck that was traveling in the area of South Main Street and Peck’s Lane, police report.

People with any information about the leaf blower’s whereabouts are asked to contact police.

Sandy Hook Crash

About 8 am on November 22, motorist Kristen Lane, 35, of Ridgefield was driving a 2004 Honda Accord sedan eastward on Berkshire Road.

Lane then left the pavement while attempting to make a right turn onto Jordan Hill Road and struck a log, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Lane a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Intersection Accident

About 8 pm on November 22, motorist Alexandra Fogelberg, 18, of 24 Russett Road, who was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV, and motorist John Omalyev, 58, of 36 Mt Pleasant Road, who was driving a 1997 Volvo 850 station wagon, collided at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Queen Street, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Fogelberg an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Honda Vs Toyota

Police report that at about 1:40 pm on November 22, motorist Pedro Matos, 29, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2007 Honda Accord sedan, and motorist Garrett Bell, 43, of Danbury, who was driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla sedan, had a collision at the intersection of Main Street and East Street.

There were no injuries. Matos received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.

 

Riverside Road

Brian Bedron, 52, of Bethany was driving a tractor-trailer truck westward on Riverside Road about 3:22 pm on November 22, when the top of the truck’s trailer struck a low-hanging utility line, disconnecting that line from the house at 73 Riverside Road, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Chevy Hits Mercedes

About 12:19 pm on November 22, motorist Danielle Crawford, 50, of 6 Wentworth Drive was driving a 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL-450 SUV eastward on Sugar Street, near its intersection with Scudder Road, and then stopped the vehicle for a traffic flagman, police report.

Eastbound motorist Ryan Hooper, 21, of 12 Loveland Drive, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet K-3500 pickup truck, which was hauling a trailer, then struck the rear end of the Mercedes, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Hooper a written warning for following too closely.

Botsford Incident

Police report that at about 12:26 pm on November 23, they received a call from motorist Gina Fenaroli, 21, of 32 Winton Farm Road, who reported that she had been in an auto accident near 255 South Main Street in which the unnamed driver of the other vehicle who caused that accident left the scene of the crash.

Police said they responded to the scene to investigate. Police said they issued Fenaroli a violation for driving under suspension, releasing her on a written promise to appear in court on December 6.

Police said their investigation into the incident is continuing and that they are seeking to file charges against the unnamed motorist who had left the scene the accident.

Highway Accident

State police report a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet west of the Exit 11 interchange, about 4 pm on November 23.

Motorist Dena Rosario, 66, of Yonkers, N.Y., who was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris, stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by motorist Faith Andrews, 24, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 1999 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, state police said.

Newtown ambulance volunteers transported Andrews to Danbury Hospital to be checked for possible injuries, state police said. Enforcement information was not available.

Ford Vs Honda

State police report a two-vehicle collision in heavy traffic on eastbound Interstate 84, about 200 feet west of Exit 9, about 4:45 pm on November 23.

Motorist Darlina Hancock, 42, of 94 Currituck Road, who was driving a 2008 Honda CRV SUV, slowed to a stop for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by motorist Eric Lachiver, 48, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2005 Ford Escape SUV, according to state police.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Multiple Charges

Police report that while on patrol on Hawleyville Road about 11:30 am on November 28, they stopped motorist Anne Marie Robbins-DiLeo, 57, of 14 Pond Brook Road for not wearing a seatbelt while driving.

After investigating, police charged her with failure to wear a seatbelt and with driving with a suspended license.

Police added that while processing the case, they learned that there was a warrant pending against Robbins-DiLeo concerning a past incident. Police additionally charged her with failure to respond to an infraction and with two counts of allowing a dog to roam.

Police released Robbins-DiLeo on $1,684 bail for a December 13 court appearance.

RV Investigation

Police said this week they are seeking aid from the public in solving a case involving the theft of a recreational vehicle that had been parked in a lot at the rear of the Blue Colony Diner at 66 Church Hill Road.

Police received a report in September that a tan Fleetwood-brand recreational vehicle was stolen from the lot in late April. Police ask anyone with information on the theft to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Two MV Violations

Police said that at about 5 pm on November 28, they stopped motorist Victor Pagan, 25, of Bridgeport who was driving southward on South Main Street, near Sand Hill Plaza, with his vehicle’s headlamps off.

After stopping Pagan to investigate, police charged him with failure to illuminate headlamps and with driving with a suspended license. Police released him on $1,000 bail for a December 13 court appearance.

Vandalism Spree

Police report that unknown vandals intentionally damaged numerous curbside residential mailboxes during a two-hour period extending from about 10 pm on Saturday, November 26, to midnight on Sunday, November 27, along four residential streets in town. The vandals damaged mailboxes positioned along Yogananda Street, Charter Ridge Road, New Lebbon Road, and High Rock Road, police said. Police ask anyone with information about the criminal mischief spree to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Larceny Charge

Police report that at about 11:30 am on November 29, Newtown High School officials and the police’s school resource officer for the high school received word that some students there had some money stolen from their belongings that were left in a school locker room.

The police officer and school officials thus investigated and reviewed video surveillance recordings of the premises, which showed a suspect entering the locker room in question, police said.

The suspect identified through the video recording was then found to be in possession of the unspecified amount of missing money, police said.

Police arrested the suspect, charging the person with sixth-degree larceny. That charge reflects the alleged theft of items worth less than $500.

Police said the person was released on a written promise to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on December 19. Because the person arrested is under age 18, the suspect’s identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.

SUV Vs Bird

Police report that Susan Conley, 48, of 8 Pine Street was driving a 2004 Honda CRV SUV eastward on Berkshire Road on the morning of November 29, when the vehicle was struck by a large bird, possibly a wild turkey, that was flying across the roadway. Conley was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Six Charges

Police said they received a report about 9 am on November 30 informing them that a motor vehicle accident that had occurred in front of 107 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center.

Police said their investigation determined that motorist Janice Markey, 40, of 59 Riverside Road had been driving an unspecified vehicle in the westbound lane of Church Hill Road, after which the vehicle went onto a sidewalk and struck a lamppost, knocking the lamppost to the ground. There were no injuries.

After the collision occurred, Markey drove away from the accident scene and dropped off a child passenger at school, police said.

Police said they found Markey and stopped her on Church Hill Road to investigate.

Police said they charged Markey with driving under the influence, risk of injury to a minor, evading responsibility, making a restricted turn, failure to drive to the right, and failure to have automotive insurance.

After processing, police released Markey on $500 bail for a December 14 court appearance.

Jaguar off Road

Motorist Mitchell Swain, 30, of Omaha. Neb., was driving a 1995 Jaguar XJ6 sedan westward near 94 Riverside Road about 9:17 pm November 30, and then swerved to avoid a deer on the road, but struck a dirt embankment, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Swain for making a restricted turn.

Toddy Hill Road

At about 6 pm on November 29, motorist Margaret Zeiner, 55, of 101 Castle Hill Road, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer SUV, was waiting at a traffic signal on Toddy Hill Road at its intersection with Berkshire Road, police report.

The Chevrolet then rolled backward, striking the front end of a 2007 Infiniti G-35 sedan driven by Erica Joyce, 48, of 23 Beechwood Drive, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Zeiner for unsafe backing.
