Police Boost Motorist Safety Enforcement

During an upcoming two-week period, town police, among other area law enforcement agencies, will intensify the enforcement of  motorist safety belt and child safety seat laws.

The enforcement program will run from May 23 through June 5. The campaign is known as “Click-It or Ticket.”

The campaign’s slogan is, “If you don’t buckle up to save your life, then buckle up to save yourself a ticket.”

Police will employ “high visibility enforcement” as a way to have motorists comply with safety belt and child safety seat laws, according to Sergeant Douglas Wisentaner.

Motorist spot checks and heavy police patrols will be employed as enforcement techniques.

Drivers who are not wearing safety belts and passengers under 16 who are not wearing safety belts will be ticketed.

Sgt Wisentaner offered four safety tips for drivers: obey all traffic laws; always buckle up; obey posted speed limits; never drink alcohol and drive.
