Church Hill Road

Police report that at about 9:19 pm on January 11, they stopped motorist Josh Stevens, 20, of Ansonia on Church Hill Road, near Interstate 84, because the vehicle that Stevens was driving had no front marker plate.

After investigating, police charged Stevens with failure to display a front marker plate and with driving with a suspended vehicle registration.

Police released Stevens from custody on $100 bail for a January 26 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Dispute

On receiving a complaint, police said they responded to the area of 115 Poverty Hollow Road about 4:47 pm January 14 to investigate a report of a dispute between two people that was occurring on the side of the road.

Following their investigation, police charged Thomas Beard, 43, of Monroe with second-degree breach of peace. Police released Beard on $200 bail for a January 28 court appearance.

Graffiti At Church

Police are investigating some graffiti being spray-painted onto the Newtown Congregational Church at 14 West Street.

Police said that sometime between 5:30 pm on January 8 and 8 am on January 10, someone spray-painted graffiti on an exterior side wall of the building near its northern entrance. The graffiti included a “smiley face” image, police said.

Police are investigating the incident as a case of criminal mischief and desecration of property. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Officer Maryhelen McCarthy at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Toddy Hill Road

At about 8:14 am on January 14, motorist Samantha Jo Shepard, 20, of 39 Cricket Trail was driving a 1993 Geo Prizm sedan southward near 107 Toddy Hill Road, when the vehicle went out of control and then struck an embankment along the right road shoulder, police report.

Police said that a flat tire may have caused the auto to go out of control. Shepard was not injured. Police verbally warned her for making a restricted turn.

Currituck Road

Police report a two-vehicle accident near 115 Currituck Road about 9 pm January 12.

The collision involved motorist Bruce Amster, 57, of North Yarmouth, Mass., who was driving a 1995 Mitsubishi pickup truck, and motorist Charles Leety, 81, of 58 Elizabeth Circle, who was driving a 2002 Subaru Forester station wagon, police said.

Following the impact, Subaru passenger Jean Leety, 84, of the same address, reported pain, but declined transport to a hospital, police said.

Police said they issued Amster an infraction for failure to drive to the right.

Chrysler Vs Chrysler

Motorist Ashlee Tenk, 18, of 54 Pond Brook Road, who was driving a 1999 Chrysler Cirrus sedan, was traveling southward on South Main Street and approaching that street’s intersection with Botsford Hill Road at about 8:08 am January 12, police report.

At that time, motorist Jeremiah Irving, 57, of Guilford was driving a 2005 Chrysler Sebring convertible northward on South Main Street and approaching the intersection, according to police.

As the Cirrus attempted to turn left onto eastbound Botsford Hill Road, the Cirrrus and the Sebring collided, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Tenk and infraction on charges of failure to grant the right of way and driving a vehicle without a license.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Danielle Danka, 18, of 1 Crown View Drive turned herself over to police at the police station on the afternoon of January 15 and was charged with second-degree harassment, second-degree threatening, and risk of injury to a minor, police report.

Police said they received a complaint about Danka in November, after which they investigated and obtained a court warrant.

Following processing, police released Danka on $100 bail for a January 20 court appearance.

 

South Main DUI

Police said they received a report that a motorist was driving a vehicle erratically on South Main Street about 3:46 pm on January 16, so they went to the area to investigate. Police said they found the motorist in question on South Main Street, near its intersection with Ethan Allen Road.

Following an investigation at the scene, police said they charged motorist Patrick Burke, 51, of Trumbull with driving under the influence. Police released Burke on $100 bail for a February 2 court appearance.

Mt Pleasant DUI

Police said that at about 1:18 am on January 18, they stopped motorist Kimberly Ann Palczynski, 41, of 12 Taunton Hill Road near 174 Mt Pleasant because Palczynski allegedly had failed to drive to the right and had made a restricted turn.

After investigating, police said they charged Palczynski with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, making a restricted turn, and failure to be photographed. As part of arrest processing, police require people to be photographed for identification purposes.

Palczynski was scheduled for arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

Police Car

Police report an accident involving a town police patrol car and a motorist that occurred during hazardous driving conditions due to weather at about 5:13 pm on January 17 on Mt Pleasant Road near Johnnie Cake Lane.

Motorist Alfred Cesar, 39, of Stratford was driving a 1996 Nissan Sentra southward on Mt Pleasant Road, as police patrol Officer Scott Smith, 26, was driving a Ford Crown Victoria police patrol car northward there, police said.

The Nissan then went out of control and crossed into the northbound lane, sideswiping the police car, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Cesar for traveling too fast for conditions.

Berkshire Road

At about 1:24 pm on January 9, motorist Kyle Kling, 23, of Huntingtown Road, who was driving a 2009 Subaru sedan near 94 Berkshire Road, had stopped along the road shoulder for a motor vehicle accident in the area, police said.

When Kling then attempted to drive away from the road shoulder, the Subaru rolled backwards, striking a parked unoccupied 2009 Mercedes-Benz station wagon, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Kling for a backing violation.

SUV Into Brook

Motorist Michael Czarnecki, 17, of 39 Cobblers Mill Road was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer SUV westward near 74 Pond Brook Road about 1 am January 18, when the vehicle slid on the slushy road, police report.

The SUV then entered the opposite lane and went down an embankment, with its front end entering an adjacent brook, police said.

Czarnecki was not injured. Police issued him an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

DUI/Reckless

State police report that they stopped motorist Christopher Rich, 42, of Shelton for driving 90 miles per hour on eastbound Interstate 84 at about 1:30 am January 14.

After investigating, state police charged Rich with driving under the influence and with reckless driving.

State police released Rich from custody on $500 bail for a February 1 court appearance.

Jeep Into Rails

About 10 pm January 11, motorist Donna Djonne, 19, of 1 River Edge Drive was driving a 2006 Jeep Wrangler SUV eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, when for unknown reasons, the Jeep drifted onto the highway’s median and collided with some guardrailing, state police said.

Djonne reported head pain and was checked by Newtown ambulance volunteers, after which she declined to be transported to a hospital, state police said.

State police verbally warned her for failure to drive in the established lane.

Prospect Drive

About 3:42 pm on January 12, motorist Ismael Rivera, 63, of Stratford, who was driving a 1995 Ford Ranger pickup truck westward on Prospect Drive, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by westbound motorist Sandra Ramirez, 34, of Danbury, who was driving a 1995 Honda Accord sedan, police report.

 There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Ramirez for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Icy Road

Motorist Alexandra Kroon, 17, of 77 Alberts Hill Road was driving a 1997 Audi A-4 sedan eastward on Walnut Tree Hill Road, near Bridge End Farm Lane, about 7:27 am January 20, when the auto crested a hill on a curve and the vehicle then began fishtailing on the icy roadway, police said.

Kroon lost control of the Audi and the auto slid sideways, going off the westbound road shoulder, striking some curbing, traveling across the lawn at 203 Walnut Tree Hill Road, and then hitting a tree, police said.

Kroon was not injured. Sandy Hook firefighters responded. Police said they verbally warned Kroon for traveling unreasonably fast.
