First Steps Seeks Volunteers

DANBURY – An open house for prospective volunteers in the First Steps program of the Healthy Families Network will be held on Wednesday, October 13, at 10 am at the Danbury Visiting Nurse Association.

First Steps is a telephone support program that matches trained volunteers with first-time parents. Starting with a visit to the family in the hospital, the volunteer then supports the new family by offering information, linking families to community resources, and providing a listening ear. Telephone calls are made on a regular basis from the First Steps office at the Danbury VNA office.

A commitment of approximately two hours a week is all that is required to offer a helping hand to a first-time family. For more information call 792-4120.
