Free Peace, Love & Music At Vibes Sunday For Newtown Residents
BRIDGEPORT — In the spirit of peace, love and music, Gathering of the Vibes announced on Monday, July 15, that Newtown residents are invited to attend any or all of the performances on Sunday, July 28, free of charge.
Residents will be asked to show an ID and/or utility bill with their home address in order to attend the final day of the festival.
In addition, anyone who attends The Great Newtown Reunion on July 27 is also invited to enjoy the music and fun at Vibes on Sunday. Bring your reunion ticket stub for free admission.
The 18th Annual Gathering of the Vibes Festival will be presented at Seaside Park July 25-28. Vibes is an all ages, family friendly event, offering a family camping area, Kids Corner, Teen Scene including interactive programming, and a School of Rock Teen Vibes Stage featuring musical instruction and jam sessions with Main Stage artists. Headliners on Sunday will include Max Creek, Blues Traveler, Fishbone, and The Black Crowes. Performances will begin at 11, and ten bands are scheduled for the full day.
Additional performances this year will include Phil Lesh & Friends (performing Friday and Saturday nights), Gov’t Mule, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, The Roots, Dark Star Orchestra, Deep Banana Blackout, Max Creek, among others. Wavy Gravy will serve as the weekend’s emcee, and saxophonist Bill Evans will perform as a featured guest with bands all weekend.
Camping passes offer camping near the performance stage and access to the festival’s VIP Tent & Stage Viewing Areas, a festival T-shirt and poster, catered lunches on Friday and Saturday, and a catered brunch on Sunday. RVs and vehicles pulling a camper will be required to purchase an additional RV Pass.
Single day tickets are $85 for Friday and Saturday (each day), and $42.50 for Sunday; single day VIP tickets are $205 for Friday or Saturday, $150 for Sunday, and $50 for ages 5-12. Parking is $20 per vehicle.
Late night DJ sets from Rob Garza and James Murphy, Papadosio, and the Vibes late, late Silent Disco party on the beach will keep the energy flowing until sunrise.
This year, the Late Night Stage will be opened up to single day ticket holders on Friday and Saturday. Late Night performance tickets (previously only accessible to weekend campers) will be available on-site for $20 per night.
Organizers and volunteers are hoping to make this year’s the greenest Vibes yet. The Green Vibes Carbon Cutters team will provide information on how to reduce carbon footprints, and further expand the on-site recycling program to bring Vibes closer its ultimate goal of being a zero-waste event.
Also, the festival will host its annual non-perishable food, personal hygiene products and clothing drive. Over the course of the 2012 festival weekend, attendees brought in a total of 7,210 pounds of donations (6,659 lbs of food and personal hygiene products, and 552 lbs of new or gently used clothing). In addition to this, food vendors and Gathering of the Vibes chipped in an additional 5,351 lbs. of non-perishable food and perishable food and water. Donations are distributed to local food banks and non-profit organizations.
