A group of Middle Gate Elementary School students huddled inside a classroom on Tuesday, February 24, to participate in one session of the “EverWonder on the Road” after-school program.

Pam Fagan, Middle Gate Elementary School’s retired math/science specialist, has been returning to work with Middle Gate students and EverWonder Children’s Museum Program Coordinator Janis Hubina for the program.

Ms Hubina said the EverWonder on the Road program is a new initiative that is designed to bring the children’s museum’s programs to different locations.

According to the museum’s website, the EverWonder on the Road program can be offered in “numerous local communities in the greater Danbury and Waterbury regions.”

Ms Fagan led the Middle Gate students on Tuesday through the process of creating “paper trees” out of newspaper pages. By attaching and rolling the newspaper pages together, then cutting them in a special way, Ms Fagan demonstrated how the students would create tall “trees.”

After the students are done using their trees as decorations at home, Ms Fagan encouraged the students recycle them.

Other projects were offered during the event for students who finished their trees early. Ms Fagan said those projects included creating newspaper trees out of different sized newspapers and creating newspaper pots for plants, which she said can be planted in the ground with the plant when it is ready to be planted.

The EverWonder on the Road after school program at Middle Gate began in January and was offered for different age levels, according to Ms Hubina.

Different activities have been offered throughout the program’s run at Middle Gate, including owl pellet dissection, a study of architecture, and a study on flying objects, according to Ms Fagan.

More information about EverWonder on the Road is available at the museum’s website, everwondermuseum.org.
