Police Department Accreditation Review Slated
Police Department Accreditation Review Slated
On Thursday, January 24, a team of inspectors from the accreditation division of the Connecticut Police Academy is scheduled to conduct a review of the Newtown Police Departmentâs policies and practices documents.
The review is intended to determine whether the police department should be recertified for its current âTier Iâ accreditation status. The department received Tier I accreditation in January 2005. Such status must be recertified every three years.
The police department is working toward achieving Tier II accreditation status and will have the inspectors return in the future to conduct a review for that certification level.
Town police are encouraging residents to contact the Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council at the Connecticut Police Academy with any comments, suggestions, or concerns that they may have about the police department.
Comments may be submitted in writing to: The Connecticut Police Academy, Accreditation Division, 285 Preston Avenue, Meriden CT 06450.
Also, comments may be submitted by telephone to the police academy staff at 203-427-2602, or to Lieutenant George Sinko at the town police department at 270-4244.
