Meadow Brook Burglary
Sometime between 11 am and 3:15 pm on February 18, someone entered a home on Meadow Brook Road by forcing open a rear door, police said. The intruder then stole jewelry and cash from the premises.
Meadow Brook Road connects South Main Street to Huntingtown Road in southern Newtown.
Police are investigating and ask anyone who saw any suspicious activity in that area to contact them at 426-5841.
Drug/Alcohol Charges
Police charged two people with drug/alcohol violations at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road about 8:30 pm February 23.
Police said they stopped motorist Thomas Britto, 19, of Trumbull for making a restricted turn at the intersection. A search of the vehicle that Britto was driving turned up some alcohol, police said. A police dog search of the vehicle found some marijuana and a smoking pipe, police added.
Police then charged Britto with making a restricted turn, driving while under suspension, and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. Police said they also issued Britto a written warning for possession of alcohol by a minor.
Also, police charged an unidentified girl under age 18, who was a passenger in the vehicle, with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of alcohol by a minor. State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.
Police released Britto on a written promise to appear on March 7 in Danbury Superior Court. Police released the unidentified girl into her motherâs custody. The girl signed a written promise to appear March 7 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court.
Middle School
After learning of the existence of an arrest warrant, a parent brought a child to the police station on the morning of February 24 and the boy under age 16 was then charged with three violations because the youth had become disruptive during classes at Newtown Middle School last December, police said.
Police charged the boy with breach of peace, disorderly conduct, and threatening.
After arrest processing, police released the boy on a written promise to appear March 10 in Danbury Juvenile Court. State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.
Vandalism
Someone sometime between 10 pm February 21 and 8:30 am February 22 intentionally broke the rear window of a vehicle that was parked in a residential driveway on Lantern Drive, police said. Other vehicles that were parked in that area were not damaged, police said.
Lantern Drive extends from Bear Hills Road into Monroe.
Officer Todd Dingee is investigating and asks anyone with information on the case of third-degree criminal mischief to contact him at the police station at 426-5841.
Tires Punctured
Police are investigating an incident in which someone intentionally punctured the tires of three vehicles that were parked in residential driveways along Alder Lane in Sandy Hook. Alder Lane is a side street near Zoar Cemetery, off Berkshire Road.
The vandalism occurred sometime between 7 pm February 21 and 10 am on February 22, police said. The vandal used an unknown device to puncture the tires. Officer Todd Dingee is investigating.
Sugar Street
While traveling in snowy conditions about 12:46 pm February 22, motorist Richard Delucia, 47, of Bethel, who was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer on Sugar Street near Drummers Lane, skidded into the opposite travel lane and struck an embankment, police said.
The Ford then flipped onto its right side. Delucia was not injured. Police verbally warned him for failure to drive to the right.
Honda Off Road
About 12:22 pm on February 22, during snowy conditions, motorist Fawn Schmidt, 47, of 1 Phyllis Lane was driving a 2006 Honda Pilot southward on Orchard Hill Road, when the SUV started skidding downhill, police said.
The Honda then slid through the intersection of Orchard Hill Road and Platts Hill Road, after which it went off the road, struck a tree and dropped into a ditch, police said.
Schmidt was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Toddy Hill
During slippery conditions in a snowstorm about 9 am February 22, motorist David Solaz, 51, of Southbury, who was driving a 1997 GMC sport-utility vehicle, was traveling southward on a snow-covered Toddy Hill Road, near Marlin Road, police said.
Toddy Hill Road was barricaded south of its intersection with Marlin Road to allow utility pole maintenance work there, police said. However, the GMC traveled southward through the barricade and slid about 40 yards on the snowy road, police said.
Solaz was not injured. Police said they verbally warned him for traveling too fast for conditions.
I-84 Snowstorm
During a snowstorm about 12:20 pm February 22, Eric Jones, 46, of Shelton was driving a commercial 2004 Ford Ranger pickup truck eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, when an unidentified tractor-trailer truck passed Jones and the Ford then jerked to the right, went out of control, and then rolled over, state police said. Jones refused medical attention, according to state police.
Transmission
State police report that John Bacon, 57, of Gorham, Maine, was driving a 2005 International tractor-trailer truck eastward on Interstate 84, between Exits 8 and 9, at about 2 am February 19, when the truckâs transmission fell onto the roadway. Â
Motorist Robin Gilman, 42, of 18 Butternut Ridge Road, who was driving a 2000 BMW 323, then struck the fallen transmission, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police said Bacon failed to secure a load.
Queen Street
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the hazardous intersection of Queen Street and Glover Avenue about 1:45 pm February 14.
Motorist Christie Daniels, 22, of 45 Bennetts Bridge Road was driving a 2006 Suzuki Aerio coupe southward on Queen Street, when the Suzuki was hit by a tan Buick that was making a left turn from eastbound Glover Avenue onto northbound Queen Street, police said. Glover Avenue is controlled by a stop sign there.
The female who was driving the tan Buick left the scene of the accident without identifying herself, police said. Daniels was not injured in the accident, police said.

DUI Charge
Police report that at about 6:44 pm February 21, motorist Mario Zigerlig, 60, of 2 Topside Lane, who was driving a 2001 Mercedes-Benz E-430 sedan, pulled out of a driveway at 71 South Main Street and collided with a 1996 Plymouth Voyager minivan that was being driven southward on South Main Street by Thomas Laraia, 46, of Madison.
An unidentified elderly woman passenger riding in the Plymouth was transported by ambulance volunteers to Danbury Hospital for a medical evaluation, according to police.
After investigating, police charged Zigerlig with driving under the influence and with failure to grant the right of way. Police released Zigerlig on $400 bail for a March 6 court appearance.
VW Vs Cat
Police report that motorist Linda Bates, 54, of 55 Sugar Lane was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta station wagon eastward near 24 Sugar Lane about 9:15 am February 21, when a cat ran out in front of the moving auto.
Bates was unable to stop in time and collided with the animal, which died from the impact, police said. Bates was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Minivan Vs Pole
About 3:30 am February 22 in snowy conditions, motorist Robert Gerolimatos, 40, of Monroe was driving a minivan southward near 167 Toddy Hill Road, when he applied the brakes, went into a skid on the slippery road and then struck a utility pole, splitting it in two, police said.
Gerolimatos reported a leg injury and was transported by ambulance volunteers to Danbury Hospital, police said. Botsford firefighters went to the accident. The road was closed to traffic for several hours, police said. The accident is under investigation.
Berkshire Collision
Police said that at about 8 am February 22 in snowy conditions, motorist Peter J. Stockwell, 34, of 24 Charter Ridge Road was driving a 2005 Lexus GX-470 sport-utility vehicle eastward on Berkshire Road, near Newtown High School.
At that time, motorist James P. OâConnor II, 18, of 5 Sawmill Ridge Road, who was driving a 1999 Ford Windstar minivan, skidded out of the high schoolâs driveway onto Berkshire and collided with the Lexus, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said OâConnor was driving an unregistered vehicle.
Mt Pleasant Road
A two-vehicle accident occurred about 7:06 am February 22 on Mt Pleasant Road in snowy conditions, according to police.
The collision involved motorist Samantha Novia, 21, of 56 Botsford Hill Road, who was driving a 2003 Saturn Vue sport-utility vehicle, and motorist Kevin Soule, 37, of South Windsor, who was driving a 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, police said. There were no injuries.
Police verbally warned Novia for traveling too fast for conditions. Police verbally warned Soule for following too closely.
