Police Announce Road Closures, Parking Bans

For Parade

Staging the town’s rescheduled annual Labor Day Parade will require that roads leading to the town center be closed to traffic from approximately 1:45 to 4 pm on Sunday, October 9, according to police Lieutenant Christopher Vanghele.

The parade initially had been scheduled for morning of Labor Day on September 5, but the town was still dealing with the multiple problems caused by Tropical Storm Irene, so the event was rescheduled to Sunday, October 9.

Police list the locations at which roadblocks will be positioned to prevent traffic flow toward the town center:

*Southbound Mt Pleasant Road at Reservoir Road.

*Main Street’s intersections with Academy Lane, Currituck Road, Hanover Road, Schoolhouse Hill Road, and West Street.

*Westbound Church Hill Road at The Boulevard.

*Eastbound Sugar Street at Elm Drive.

*Northbound Queen Street at Elizabeth Street.

*Northbound South Main Street at Elizabeth Street.

The detour road for traffic traveling northward on South Main Street will be Wasserman Way.

Police said the following roadways will have “No Parking” signs posted on them and will be considered tow-away zones:

*The section of The Boulevard between its intersections with Church Hill Road and Schoolhouse Hill Road.

*The section of Schoolhouse Hill Road between its intersections with The Boulevard and Main Street.

*The section of Hanover Road between its intersections with Main Street and Hall Lane.

*The section of Elm Drive between its intersections with Sugar Street and Hawley Road.

*Along one side each of both Meadow Road and Elizabeth Street.
