A group of Lions Club and VNA (Visiting Nurse Association) volunteers along with optometrist Dr Joseph Young, of Village Eye Care on Church Hill Road, provided pediatric eye screenings throughout the week of Monday, November 4, for preschool students.

Following the event, Dr Young said it was “wildly successful.”

123 preschool children had their eyes scanned during the day, according to Dr Young, who added, “which is just absolutely phenomenal.”

According to Dr young, the preschool screenings were a week long event. The Lion's Club and the VNA screened children from all the preschools in Newtown. This will become a yearly event, Dr Young says. According to Dr Young the total students screened this year was low due to some parents not filling out permission slips, but the hope is, once parents see the incredible amount of information that was gathered from this year's testing, there will be a larger turnout next year. The screening next year will be at the same time of year, according to Dr Young.

If anyone wishes to get a preview, the screenings will also be done at the Newtown Health Fair at the vision screening area hosted by the Newtown Lion's Club.
