Red Cross Wins A Grand Prix Finish Line

To the Editor:

As the charity of choice of the Tenth Annual I-95 CityCenter Grand Prix held June 6, the American Red Cross of Western Connecticut would like to extend a sincere “thank you” to the entire staff of I-95 which did an outstanding job of coordinating the event. The rainy race course didn’t deter the drivers of 21 miniature race cars as they maneuvered a series of bends and hairpin turns through the streets of downtown Danbury. The hundreds of spectators were also treated to a family festival on the green featuring children’s rides, games, food, and live entertainment.

The extraordinary amount of work by the I-95 staff is what made this charitable event a success. We commend Bob Mordente, Cathy Moore, Eric Seigel, and Tim Sheehan of WRKI Cumulus Media for putting it all together, along with John Lennon of Bethel Power Equipment, Doug Paul of Barden Corporation, Matt Rose of Century Real Estate, and Dave Treadwell. We are grateful for the cooperation from the City of Danbury through CityCenter Danbury, our local police and the surrounding businesses and area vendors who came together in support of this worthwhile endeavor.

Our deepest gratitude to our major sponsors, AWD, Crystal Rock Bottled Water, and Halvorsen Motorsport/Mellen Marine for their generosity and willingness to do their part to ensure that the American Red Cross continues its mission. A special “thank you” to A&P Superfoodmart, Action Motors, Barden Corporation, Cosmo’s Office Supply, Federal Towing, Keogh Hardware, Metro Roofing, Modzelewski Towing, Star Distributors, STP, Volvo of Danbury, Washington Mutual, and Waste Management.

Not only those who participated, but all those who attended could feel good about doing their part to support the work of the American Red Cross. Proceeds from the I-95 Grand Prix will go directly to the programs and services provided by the Western Connecticut Chapter. Our deepest appreciation to everyone involved in making this anniversary celebration a “grand” success.

Sincerely,

Gail Meehan
