Newtown Health & Public Safety Fair Relocates To Reed School Saturday
September 17 is the 23rd Annual Health and Public Safety Fair and organizers Mae Schmidle, Della Schmid, and Donna Culbert are very excited to welcome the MEGA Body Exhibit, a driving force for relocating the popular event from Newtown Middle School to Reed Intermediate School, from 9 am to 1 pm.
The Health Fair is sharing the date with this year's Newtown Arts Festival which, will be across the street at Fairfield Hills. The tri-chairs are hoping the proximity will drive some of the best attendance ever to this free activity offering a variety of free screenings, information, advice, and many free giveaways that will be available to those who visit.

Ms Culbert describes MEGA Body As "a larger-than-life, walk through model of the entire human body - a wonderful way to experience the inner workings of various systems of their bodies."
With an emphasis on healthy living, observers learn how the choices they make can have a huge effect on their well-being, today and in the future.
"Throughout the entire fair, residents can experience interactive demonstrations and wellness treatments," the health director added. "There are numerous free drawings, gift certificates to many of Newtown's restaurants and eateries to honor Family Day, and promotions from many of our local businesses."
Free health screenings will include skin cancer screening by Dr William Notaro; vision screening by Dr Young and the Newtown Lions Club; posture and balance evaluation by Dr Della Schmid of Colonial Chiropractic Centre; cholesterol, lipid profile, blood sugar, blood pressure, and BMI screening by Bethel VNA; diabetes risk screening by the Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut; strains and posture screening by Popowich Chiropractic & Acupuncture; self-administered maternal depression screening by Families Network of Western CT.
The Bethel VNA with support from Newtown VNA are also offering flu shots at the Health Fair.

"There is no charge to get in, or for most of the health and safety activities we will be offering," Ms Culbert said. "So we hope to see a lot of visitors come to the Reed School this Saturday for the health fair, and then plan to stay to attend Arts Festival activities across the street at Fairfield Hills. And if folks want to take a brief break from the Arts Festival, we invite them to come over to Reed to see all we have to offer."
