LITCHFIELD, CONN. — The annual A Fall Gathering of Artists art show and sale will return to the Litchfield Firehouse for its eighth year October 17–19. This popular event features about 40 award-winning Connecticut artists and artisans who will display their latest creations, including original paintings, prints, photography, handcrafted jewelry, pottery and glasswork.

The exhibit will be open from 10 am to 6 pm each day. An artists’ reception will be Saturday, from 11 am to 6 pm, during which art demonstrations will be given.

“It’s always inspiring to bring together a group of artists with such a large variety of creative expression,” says Mally DeSomma, who founded the show and has been running it since 2000, in conjunction with the Fine Line Art Gallery in Woodbury, Conn. “Over the years, our customers have reaped the benefits of having this enormous selection of artwork at affordable prices.”

As a painter, DeSomma especially appreciates this fusion of artistic talent under one roof, because many of the artists are present for all or most of the show. “It enables us to view and critique one another’s work in a constructive environment, communicate technical knowledge, and learn from each other,” she said.

Other artists represented include Milford jewelry designer Adelita Chirino of Lita Designs. A Cuban American, Chirino draws inspiration for her elegant or whimsical designs from her bicultural experience, as well as from the organic play of the fine stones and beads she used in her work.

Other three-dimensional artwork will include the pottery of Roxbury ceramic artist Judith (Lerner) Taylor. A former soloist with American Ballet Theater, Taylor continues to express the joy of movement through her ceramic creations, “EarthDances.” This year leaves, flowers and hummingbirds are prominently featured on her pottery, which is both functional and decorative.
