NOTE (July 21, 2016): This story has been updated to reflect a change of starting date for this project by the CT DOT.

BRIDGEWATER - The Connecticut Department of Transportation has announced that Route 133 will be closed in the southern section of Bridgewater beginning July 29. The roadway will be closed to through-traffic for approximately two weeks.

The closure, and subsequent detours, of Route 133 is necessary to facilitate utility work in advance of DOT Project 16-98 which will commence next year.

The roadway will be closed to through traffic from the Bridgewater town line/Lake Lillinonah Bridge to Wewaka Brook Road, a winding segment of roadway approximately 1 mile long.

"The detour will route traffic along Route 133 to Route 67 through New Milford and follow Route 202/7 south to Route 25 in Brookfield and back to Route 133," according to CT DOT.

The utility work this summer will consist of the replacement of 3,000 feet of conduit and various utility vaults along with the installation of 25,000 feet of new fiber optic cable.

Project 16-98, scheduled to begin next year, will include the upgrade of guide railing along the same stretch of Route 133 that will be closed for the next few weeks. Approximately 3,000 feet of the section of roadway will be fully reconstructed, the remaining section of roadway will be milled and paved. Roadway drainage will also be upgraded throughout the project limits.

The CT DOT will be closing a one-mile stretch of Route 133 in Bridgewater July 20-August 3, as shown on this map. The closure will affect anyone trying to use that route to get to Bridgewater, New Milford, and other surrounding towns. Detours will be set in place. (Google Maps)
