The Newtown Soccer Club hosted the 33rd Annual Memorial Day Soccer Tournament this past weekend. The club welcomed 102 teams from all over Connecticut to play in a one-day format tournament. Out-of-county towns such as Plainfield, Naugatuck, Wallingford, and Bristol came for the competition, along with local clubs from Wilton, Weston, and Westport. The girls’ teams played on Saturday and the boys’ squads on Sunday. In addition to competitive games, food vendors and t-shirt sales made this year’s tournament a success for the Newtown Soccer Club.

There were 16 teams from the Newtown Soccer Club, which had a strong showing throughout the competition. The teams combined to win 37 games with only 17 losses and 6 ties. Newtown earned first place in five and second place in three of the ten age brackets in which a champion was crowned.

For more coverage of the tourney, check out the May 29 print edition of The Bee.
