Sheryl Lynn O’Marra

Sheryl Lynn (Campbell) O’Marra, 48, died January 4 at Danbury Hospital after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.

She was born September 13, 1956, at the Naval Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Sheryl graduated from Newtown High School, Class of 1974, and attended Western Connecticut State University for two years to major in secondary education.

She then transferred to the State University of New York at Brockport and graduated in 1978 with a bachelor of science degree in dance.

She returned to Western Connecticut after being a stay-at-home mother to her two sons to receive her teaching certification.

Sheryl was a longtime teacher at Newtown Montessori and Fraser Woods School in Newtown. She had many interests but was most proud of her family and teaching career. She considered her Montessori students as her special calling in life.

She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Colin J. O’Marra; two sons, Colin and Bryan O’Marra of Bethel; her parents Robert J. and Marjorie Campbell of Newtown; two sisters, Deborah Garthwait of Woodbury and Meg Reilly of Newtown; and a brother, Robert B. Campbell of Newtown; her mother-in-law, Shirley O’Marra; and several brothers and sister- in-laws.

Friends many call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury on Friday, January 7, from 4 to 8 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 8, at 10 am, at St Mary Church, Bethel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Connecticut Affiliate Metro Center, 350 Church Street, Lobby Level, Hartford CT 06103.
