Town Players of Newtown announces auditions for Bus Stop by William Inge, to be conducted on Monday and Tuesday, June 29-30, 7-9 pm each night.

A busload of passengers from Kansas City seek shelter at a roadside diner during a snowstorm, finding respite from the storm as well as friendship and romance.

Auditions will take place at The Little Theatre, 18 Orchard Hill Road. Brian DeToma of Danbury will direct.

The production calls for five men and three women. Actors should read the play in advance and be ready to read sides from the script. No appointment is necessary.

Rehearsals begin the week of July 6, and the production is scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings, September 4-26, with two Sunday matinees.

Additional Auditions

In addition to Newtown’s community theater, Sherman Players and TheatreWorks New Milford have auditions planned within the next few weeks.

The Sherman Playhouse is seeking a large cast of men and women (ages 20 to 60) for the outrageous cult musical comedy The Rocky Horror Show, with book, lyrics, and music by Robert O’Brien.

On the way to visit an old college professor, two clean-cut young people — Brad Majors and fiancée Janet Weiss — run into trouble and seek help at the freaky Frankenstein mansion. However, little do they know that the estate is inhabited by alien transsexuals from the planet Transylvania, and Dr Frank N. Furter is in the midst of one of his maniacal experiments.

What transpires is The Rocky Horror Show, one of the most deliberately kitschy, campy, funny, rock n’ roll, sci-fi, gothic epics to ever grace the stage.       

Auditions are Sunday, July 12, from 1 to 6 pm; and Monday and Tuesday, July 13-14, 7 to 9 pm, at The Sherman Playhouse, 5 Route 39 North (next to the fire station), in Sherman.

Those auditioning should be prepared to sing a full song (songs from the show are acceptable) and should provide their own backing music on CD or MP3 (there will be a CD player/speaker system available) or be prepared to sing a cappella. There will be no accompanist available.

Actors should be familiar with the show and expect to do cold readings.

Except for The Narrator, all roles are available; professionals and amateurs are welcome. No appointments are necessary.

In addition, TheatreWorks New Milford is seeking a cast of three women (ages 20-80) and five men (ages 20-65) for its fall production of Ken Ludwig’s hilarious farce, Leading Ladies.

From the author of Lend Me a Tenor and Moon Over Buffalo comes this new comedy. Jack and Leo are two English Shakespearean actors who are so down on their luck, they are reduced to performing “Scenes from Shakespeare” on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of Pennsylvania. But when they hear that an old lady in York, Penn., is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. The trouble is, when they get to York, they find out that the relatives aren’t nephews, but nieces and, in the tradition of any Ken Ludwig farce, hilarity ensues.   

Auditions will be held at TheatreWorks, 5 Brookside Avenue in New Milford, on Monday and Tuesday, July 13-14, from 7 to 9 pm each night.          

Auditions will consist of reading from the script. All roles are available and both professionals and amateurs are welcome. No appointments are necessary.
