C.H. Booth Library will host another Duct Tape Projects workshop with Katie Stevenson, Tuesday, July 14, from 3 to 4:30 pm.

Ms Stevenson, a teacher, illustrator, painter, sculptor, and designer, held her first Duct Tape Workshop at the library in 2004, and since then, has received requests to lead similar programs at many other libraries. She will once again lead this year’s group in making several projects, including bags, flowers, and tool belts — all from duct tape. Participants can also get creative by custom-making sandals, photo frames, belts, sun visors, and accessories of their own design.

Those participating can bring a clean, empty pet food bag (any size) and learn how to turn it into an original tote bag, with duct tape.

Need a cellphone or iPod holder? Make one with duct tape. Ms Stevenson’s list of projects is huge — wristbands, picture frames, and roses are a few more options.

Originally duct tape came only in utilitarian gray, but now the sky is the limit. Participants may use tape in a rainbow of colors and a variety of designs, from zebra stripes to Gummi Bears. Young people are invited to make creative accessories out of the various tapes, with embellishments like feathers, jewels, and beads.

The program is limited to 15 students, in grades 5-12. There is a $6 supply fee, payable at the program. Sign up online at www.chboothlibrary.org.

The library also has a box of duct tape in the Young Adult Department on the main floor, for general use. Participants may learn some new skills from Ms Stevenson, then stop by the library afterwards to create on their own.

For more information, contact Young Adult Librarian Kim Weber at 203-426-4533.
