Offering College Scholarships

Danbury area students pursuing a college degree in the environmental sciences or nursing are invited to apply for a $3,000 scholarship from the Meserve Memorial Fund.

Students living in Bethel, Brookfield, Bridgewater, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding, Ridgefield, and Sherman may apply by Thursday, April 15. Financial need is not a requirement.

The Meserve Memorial Fund typically provides 25 to 30 scholarships totaling $75,000 to $90,000 to Danbury area students each year. Since 1985, the fund has provided more than 500 scholarships, totaling more than $1 million.

Applications are available from guidance departments at area high schools. They can also be downloaded from the Fairfield County Community Foundation website, www.fccfoundation.org, under the Scholarships section. The Meserve Memorial Fund was established in 1983, a legacy of the late Mr and Mrs Albert W. Meserve, to support charitable organizations that benefit the greater Danbury region. Decisions on grants and scholarships are made by a Distribution Committee comprising community representatives.
