Housatonic Valley Waldorf School’s summer camp  programs continue on Monday with a week-long Primitive Skills camp, which runs July 27 to August 14.

The school’s summer camp programs run weekly. Registration is open through Monday morning, at the start of each week’s session, as long as Camp Administrator Carrie Reilly is contacted over the weekend—via text to 203-650-5102—  to notify her of the expected last minute registrants.

The summer camps are held at the school’s north campus, located at 40 Dodgingtown Road in Newtown. Weekly programs are $325 a week.

Families that refer a friend, relative, neighbor, or classmate to the program, will also receive $75 off the week they register, and the referred camper will also receive $75 toward their weekly fee.

To refer another camper email Ms Reilly at camp@waldorfct.org with the name of the friend and the week the campers will register.

The Primitive Skills camp for the week of July 27-31 will have a theme of “Surviving the Storm.” It will be led by Devin Frost, an experienced outdoorsman.

Primitive Skills campers will learn the basics of primitive/emergency shelter building, weather reading, and geography as it relates to the elements. Campers will also work together to build and test shelters.

The following two weeks of the school’s summer camp program will also offer Primitive Skills camps.

The August 3-7 camp will offer a week of “Water, Tapping into Nature’s Life Force.” Campers will learn the importance of water in all aspects of life. Campers will also learn how to find water, clean it, and transport it when modern methods are not available.

The August 10-14 camp will offer a week of “Scout Life, Out of the Ashes.” Campers will learn the more advanced skills that allowed earlier generations of humans to survive off the land, thrive, and live in harmony with nature. Skills will include fire making, animal tracking, plant identification, and primitive cooking.

The week of August 10-14 will culminate with a “harvest feast” that allows campers to share with others the bounty of the Earth.

For further information about the camps and to register for different weeks, visit the school’s website at waldorfct.org/camp.
