Strong Support For The Community Center By Jim and Stephanie Gaston
To the Editor:
We write in strong support of the proposed Newtown Community Center as presented by the Newtown Community Center Commission. The commission did yeoman's work securing input from our community, reviewing multiple options and suggestions, meeting with other communities and facilities, working with building experts, and both gathering and analyzing a plethora of financial information. The numbers used are actually quite conservative. Well done, and thank you NCC Commission!
The foresight of a self-sustainable facility is an important point. As David Wheeler noted in his letter to the editor, the operating expense portion of the (GE) grant is not perpetual, it will end. Perhaps Mr Wheeler said it best, "This is an opportunity to create a vibrant community hub where all will be welcome and none excluded, where expression of education, art and self improvement will flourish, and where, together we can expand and celebrate the already inherent appreciation of artistic and intellectual community that makes Newtown so special." We agree 100 percent. Moreover, it will aid the business community, promote the Fairfield Hills Campus in a positive manner, and provide a significant attraction for those thinking about moving to Newtown.
We will be eagerly voting Yes on April 5th!
Thank you.
