Keeping Newtown A Good Place To Raise A Family

To the Editor:

As a 20 year resident of Newtown, my wife Carol and I have enjoyed the opportunity to raise our family in this beautiful town. Over that time span, I built my career, safe in the knowledge that this community is a good home. I have spent the better part of those past 20 years as president of several insurance companies in addition to witnessing my three sons, Mark, Matt and Sam, thrive here.

Now, it is my turn to give back to the community that has meant so much to us.

I believe I am different than many candidates, particularly this year, simply because I am not running to benefit a personal agenda. I believe the business of government is to provide the best service to the broadest constituency in a cost effective fashion. I want to see Newtown maintain educational excellence for our kids, improve infrastructure and recreational opportunities, and work towards a more affordable community so my neighbors are no longer compelled to move from town. These are my reasons for my candidacy for the Board of Finance.

With limited resources, there will always be difficult choices. As an employer, I make many difficult decisions, but I never lose sight of the human dimension of a decision. The success of a business is reliant upon the skills and quality of its employees; all working towards a common goal.

Our goal should be to keep Newtown as an enviable, bucolic place to raise a family and enjoy one’s life. I will work towards that goal on the Board of Finance.

Regards,

Mark Boland
