Police reports, September 28 - October 6
I-84 DUI
State police report that motorist Paul Foley, 59, of Bedford, N.Y., who was driving a 2000 Mercedes-Benz SUV on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 6 pm on October 1, struck the rear end of a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by a 68-year-old Stamford man and then drove away from the scene.
State police said that through the help of a witness, they were able to find Foley, who they then stopped to investigate.
State police arrested Foley on charges of driving under the influence, evading responsibility, failure to use an ignition interlock device, driving without a license, following too closely, and failure to drive in the proper lane.
State police held Foley on $50,000 bail for an October 2 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court. Foley did not plead to the charges in court. He was released on $5,000 bail for an October 23 court appearance.
Mercedes Theft
Police report that sometime between 7 and 10 pm on Friday, October 2, someone stole a tan 2007 Mercedes-Benz GL-450 SUV from a residential property on Hanover Road, near its intersection with Echo Valley Road.
The keys were inside the unlocked SUV when it was stolen, police said.
Police said the vehicle had a white temporary New Jersey marker plate with unknown numbering on the rear end and had no marker plate on the front end. The vehicle has an extended-length trailer hitch which has a red light attached to it, police said.
Police ask anyone with knowledge of the vehicle’s whereabouts to contact investigating Officer Matthew Pirhala at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.
DUI Incident
Police report they received a 911 call about 7:48 pm on October 2 informing them of an erratic driver traveling in the area near 228 South Main Street, so they responded to search for the motorist who was reported as driving a Ford Ranger pickup truck with New York marker plates.
Police located the motorist in question and pulled him over near 100 Wasserman Way to investigate.
Police said they charged Pedro Laureno, 58, of Patterson, N.Y., with driving under the influence and with failure to keep to the right on a curve.
Laureno was released from custody on $500 bail for an October 20 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.
I-84 Accident
Motorist Timothy Pears, 20, of 60 Glen Road was driving a 2001 Nissan Altima on a ramp at the Exit 10 interchange of Interstate 84 at about 9 am on September 30, when he lost control of the auto and veered to the left, striking some guardrailing twice, according to state police.
There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
Currituck Road
Police report that early on the morning of October 2, motorist Alanna Gilbert, 24, of 41 Horseshoe Ridge Road was driving a 2009 Honda Civic sedan southward on Currituck Road, east of its intersection with Brennan Road, when she was involved in a one-vehicle accident.
Police said Gilbert explained that a deer had entered the road and she then swerved to avoid it, but drove off road, striking a real estate sign.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Gilbert for traveling too fast for conditions.
Rollover Crash
Motorist Michel Spak, 20, of 24 Edgelake Drive was driving a 1997 Saab 900 sedan southward on Botsford Hill Road, near its intersection with Button Shop Road, about 9 am on September 30 in wet conditions, when the auto entered the opposite lane, and struck an embankment along the northbound road shoulder, causing the Saab to roll over and land on its roof, police report.
Spak received arm and foot injuries, police said. Spak received an infraction for making a restricted turn, police said.
Hawleyville Accident
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Hawleyville Road (Route 25) and Old Hawleyville Road about 6 pm on September 27.
The collision involved motorist Jacob Russo, 23, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2004 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, and motorist Lindsey Carley, 38, of 21 The Boulevard, who was driving a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan minivan, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Russo an infraction for illegal passing on the right.
Warrant
Newtown police report that police in Southbury encountered Miles Dobbrow, 20, of 12 Pole Bridge Road, for whom Newtown police held an arrest warrant, at a gas station near Exit 14 of Interstate 84 on the morning of October 2. Dobbrow was then transported to Newtown, where police charged him with third-degree burglary and with seven counts of third-degree identity theft.
Police then held Dobbrow for arraignment that day in Danbury Superior Court. Dobbrow did not plead to the charges at his arraignment. Dobbrow was being held on $15,000 bail on October 7 at the Bridgeport Correctional center for an October 20 court appearance.
Hawleyville Accident
Police report a two-vehicle accident on Hawleyville Road at the Exit 9 interchange for Interstate 84 at about 4:30 pm on October 1.
The accident involved motorist Shaunessey Egan, 34, of Feeding Hills, Mass., and motorist David Parker, 35, of Roxbury, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Egan a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Sandy Hook Crash
Police report that at about 5:36 pm on October 2, motorist Jason Schneider, 42, of Milford was driving a vehicle eastward on Berkshire Road in rainy conditions and was taking a left curve in the road near Old Mill Road, when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the roadway and struck some rock ledge.
Schneider was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. The accident is under investigation, according to police.
Evading Responsibility
Police report a two-vehicle accident on northbound South Main Street at its intersection with Mile Hill Road at about 9:35 pm on September 28, in which the unknown motorist who caused the crash drove away from the scene.
That person, who was driving an unspecified vehicle, struck the rear end of a 2010 Subaru Outback driven by a New Fairfield woman, who was slowing for a traffic signal, police report. There were no injuries. Police are investigating the incident.
Sedan Hits Rails
Motorist Stephen McNeil, 23, of Waterbury was driving a 2007 Nissan Maxima sedan on a rain-slicked Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 at about 5 pm on October 2, when the vehicle traveled off the left road shoulder and struck some guardrailing, state police report.
There were no injuries. McNeil received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, state police said.
Truck vs SUV
State police report a two-vehicle sideswipe accident on westbound Interstate 84 west of Exit 10 about 8:11 am on September 29.
In that incident, motorist Liam Raftery, 20, of Danbury, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, attempted to pass motorist Sunandini Baregela, 35, of Southington, who was driving a 2013 Honda CR-V SUV, state police said. While attempting to pass, the Chevrolet sideswiped the Honda, state police report.
There were no injuries. Raftery received an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane, according to state police.
Honda vs Lightpost
Motorist Caroline Cianni, 29, of West Hartford, who was driving a 2004 Honda Accord on the Exit 11 off-ramp of Interstate 84 at about 9:40 am on September 30, lost control of the auto, veered to the right, spun around and then slid backwards into a lightpost, state police said.
Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated Cianni at the scene, state police said. Enforcement information was not available.
Chevy vs Acura
State police report a two-vehicle collision on westbound Interstate 84 about 3,000 feet east of Exit 9 at about 9 am on September 21.
Motorist Sherese Darity, 32, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2007 Acura MDX SUV, was slowing for traffic conditions when the Acura was struck from behind by motorist Robert Wells, 32, of Meriden, who was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala sedan, state police said.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Darity to Danbury Hospital on a report of pain, state police said. Wells was following too closely, according to state police.
Honda Strikes
Guardrailing
State police report that motorist Isabel Williams, 18, of Woodbury was driving a 2001 Honda Civic on the Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 at about 11:22 am on October 2, when she lost control of the auto and struck some guardrailing.
There were no injuries. Williams received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, according to state police.
