The Learning Experience (TLE) of Newtown will host a Halloween-themed Neighborhood Trunk-or-Treat Friday, October 30, from 5:30 to 7 pm. TLE is in Building A of Plaza South, 274 South Main Street.

The event is free and open to the community.

Children are expected to say “trunk-or-treat” as they participate in the alternative event to the traditional door-to-door “trick-or-treating” version of Halloween.

The event will turn the backs of more than a dozen cars, minivans, and sport utility vehicles into the new front porch. Children and parents can go from vehicle to vehicle to view decorated trunks, admire costumes, and collect tasty treats.

Halloween-inspired activities during the event will include bobbing for apples, treats and music, and a best decorated trunk contest.

Children and their parents will be able to interact with a fire truck as part of a “Touch-a-Truck,” a hands-on opportunity to explore working trucks of all types and meet the people who build, protect and serve the community. Along with member of Botsford Fire Rescue, community partners including Subway, and New York Life’s Child ID program will be onsite at the event.

“Communities are often bound together by the common goal to protect and educate the next generation. This is what inspired us to open our doors and connect all in the neighborhood through a fun, interactive event,” said Melanie Billings, center director for TLE Newtown, which provides early education for children from 6 weeks to 5 years old.
