Interstate Accident

State police report that motorist Alvaro Alberto, 22, of New Milford was driving a 2006 Nissan Sentra eastward on Interstate 84 in the area between the Exit 10 off-ramp and on-ramp, when he lost control of the auto on the icy pavement, spun out, and then struck the median guardrail.

Alberto was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

Schoolhouse at Boulevard Accident

Police report that a two-vehicle accident occurred at the four-way intersection of Schoolhouse Hill Road and The Boulevard about 6:12 pm on January 15. Each of the four legs of that intersection is controlled by a stop sign.

Police said motorist Marilyn Dogas, 67, of 57 Jo-Al Court was driving a 2010 Toyota Matrix four-door hatchback westward on Schoolhouse Hill Road, as motorist Wilder Carnes, 47, of 150-A Hanover Road was driving a 2007 Honda Odyssey minivan northward on The Boulevard.

The Toyota did not have its headlamps on and when it went through the intersection, the Toyota was not visible to the driver of the Honda, police said.

The two vehicles collided in the intersection. There were no injuries. Police said they gave Dogas a written warning for failure to illuminate headlamps and for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Intersection Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the signalized four-way intersection of Dodgingtown Road, Jacklin Road, and Taunton Hill Road about 4:30 pm on January 17.

The accident involved motorist Lucia Goode, 49, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1999 Mercedes-Benz E-320 station wagon, and motorist Susan Deynarian, 54, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 Jeep Wrangler SUV, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Goode a written warning for failure to obey a traffic signal.

Toyota Vs Jeep

During snowy road conditions at about 12:51 pm on January 18, motorist Tim Oliver, 52, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2007 Jeep Commander SUV eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with Taunton Lake Road, stopped for traffic conditions, after which eastbound motorist Angelo Marino, 51, of 18 The Old Road, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Tundra pickup truck, attempted to stop, but slid on the snowy pavement and struck the rear end of the Jeep, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Marino a written warning for following too closely.

Snowy Road Accident

At about 1:19 pm on January 18, motorist Mia Terracino, 17, of 18 Whitewood Road was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle convertible northward near 18 Diamond Drive, when the auto slid on the snowy road surface and struck a utility pole, police report.

Terracino was not injured. Police said they issued her a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Poverty Hollow Accident

Police report that at about 2:30 pm on January 18, motorist Christopher Marks, 22, of 3 Sweet Meadow Road, who was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV southward on a snowy Poverty Hollow Road, near Flat Swamp Road, lost control of the auto, crossed the road’s centerline and then struck some fencing, after which the auto struck a utility pole.

There were no injuries. Police report that they issued Marks an infraction for failure to drive to the right and for driving an unregistered vehicle. 

House Burglary

Police said they received a report on the evening of January 21 that a burglary had occurred at a home on Sunnyview Terrace, a dead-end street that extends from Riverside Road in Sandy Hook.

Police said that the home’s owner told them the premises had been burglarized sometime between January 18 and 3 pm on January 21. No items were taken, but property damage occurred, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841 in reference to Case #2014-1140.

Highway Crash

At about 8 am on January 20, motorist Peter O’Rourke, 28, of Milford was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris in the left lane of westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, when he lost control of the vehicle, veered to the left, and then hit the median guardrail, after which the Toyota drove back onto the roadway and struck by a westbound tractor-trailer truck traveling in the right lane driven by Hugo Avila, 40, of Danbury, state police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported O’Rourke to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, state police said. Sandy Hook volunteer firefighters responded to the crash. O’Rourke received an infraction for failure to drive in the established lane, according to state police.

I-84 Collision

State police report a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet west of Exit 11, about 2:46 pm on January 20.

Dean Sirois, 46, of Shelton, who was driving a 2013 Isuzu truck, struck the rear end of a 2005 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by Ronald Bossio, 67, of Ridgefield, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Two Violations

Police said that they received a report concerning an erratic northbound driver in the South Main Street area at about 9:45 pm on January 20, so they went there to investigate.

Police said they found the vehicle in question and observed, after which they stopped motorist Luis Carreno, 41, of Danbury to investigate near 87 South Main Street.

Police said they charged Carreno with failure to drive to the right and with driving with a suspended license. Carreno was released on $90 bail for a February 14 court appearance.

Ford Hits Wall

Police said that motorist Joshua Leonard Kaufman, 17, of 37 Rosemere Drive, who was driving a 2000 Ford Focus eastward on Riverside Road about 2 pm on January 21, lost control of the auto, crossed the road’s centerline and then struck the westbound curb, after which the auto reentered the road and went off the eastbound road shoulder, striking a stone wall. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Kaufman a written warning for traveling unreasonably fast.

Off The Road

Motorist Jason MacFarland, 31, of Southington was driving a 2011 Ford Fusion eastward on Interstate 84 near Hawleyville at about 6:37 pm on January 21, when he lost control of the vehicle and then struck some metal guardrailing along the right road shoulder, state police said.

MacFarland was not injured. State police said they warned MacFarland for failure to maintain the proper lane.

Median Barrier

State police report that motorist Sasha Ellis, 20, of Southington was driving a 1998 Nissan Altima westward on Interstate 84, just west of Exit 9, at about 2:12 pm on January 21 in slippery, snowy conditions, when she lost control of the auto, drove off the left road shoulder and then struck the median barrier.

Ellis reported minor pain, but refused medical attention, state police said. Enforcement information was not available.

Jeep vs Guardrail

During slippery road conditions on westbound Interstate 84, about 100 feet west of Exit 9, about 12:25 pm on January 21, motorist Lauren Berlinger, 29, of Greenfield, Mass,, who was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, lost control of the vehicle, went into a spin and then struck the median guardrail, state police said.

Berlinger was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

Evading Responsibility

State police report a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 84 about 9 pm on January 21 in which the driver who caused the crash drove away from the collision.

State police said a 51-year-old Plainville woman was driving a 2012 Volkswagen Passat sedan on the highway when the Volkswagen was struck by motorist who was driving a white pickup truck, which then drove off. The woman was not injured. State police are investigating.

Taunton Hill Road

Police report that motorist James Widmann, 17, of 74 Hattertown Road was driving northward in a 2006 Saturn Vue SUV on a snow-covered Taunton Hill Road, south of its intersection with Plumtrees Road and Great Hill Road, at about 6:13 pm on January 22, when while negotiating a curve, the vehicle began sliding.

The Saturn went onto the right road shoulder, struck a culvert, landed in a ditch, and then hit a tree, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they gave Widmann a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Barrier Crash

Motorist Marc Wiseman, 49, of Toddy Hill Road was driving a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup truck in icy conditions on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 8:42 am on January 23, when he lost control of the vehicle on the slippery pavement and struck some guardrailing and a concrete barrier, state police said.

Wiseman was not injured. No enforcement information was available.

Highway Rear-Ender

As traffic was coming to a stop on Interstate 84, near Exit 11, at about 11:55 am on January 23, motorist Doniella McKoy, 24, of Garrison, N.Y., who was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry sedan, struck the rear end of a 2013 Honda Accord driven by Shannen Walsh, 20, of Southbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. McKoy received an infraction for following too closely, state police said.

Palestine Road Accident

Police report that an unspecified motor vehicle accident occurred about noon on January 24 on Palestine Road, near its intersection with Hundred Acres Road, in which the unknown motorist who caused the collision drove away from the scene of the crash.

The vehicle that caused the collision is an early 2000’s white Ford Explorer SUV with the Limited Edition trim level, police said. The Ford would have physical damage on its driver’s side, police said.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the crash to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Berkshire Road Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Berkshire Road, near Interstate 84, about 3:23 pm on January 24.

Motorist Sean Dunn, 49, of 7 Harvest Common Road, who was driving a 2011 Honda Pilot SUV eastward, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by eastbound motorist Maria Adams, 62, of 9 Dusty Lane, who was driving a 2005 Ford Freestar minivan, police said.

Dunn reported pain, but refused medical attention, police said. Adams received a written warning for following too closely, police said.

I-84 Stop

State police said they stopped motorist Kristopher Kahle, 30, of Salem on eastbound Interstate 84 about 2:34 pm on January 25 for traveling at a high speed.

After investigating, state police charged Kahle with driving 76 miles per hour in a 65-mph zone, driving an unregistered vehicle, misuse of marker plates, and violation of a protective order.

Kahle was scheduled to appear in court January 27 to answer the charges, state police said.

Breach of Peace

Police report that at about 6:16 pm on January 25, they received a call reporting trouble on Queen Street, so they went to the area to investigate.

Police said they were dispatched to the area near My Place Pizza & Restaurant and after a brief probe charged Jason Troia, 33, of 51 Laurel Trail with breach of peace for allegedly attempting to start a fight.

After processing, police released Troia on $500 bail for a February 6 court appearance.

Boggs Hill Collision

A one-vehicle accident occurred on Boggs Hill Road, near its intersection with Willow Brook Lane, about 10:30 pm on January 25.

Police report that motorist Alexandra Dapra, 18, of 10 Harvest Common Road was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV northward on a snow-covered Boggs Hill Road, and while negotiating a curve, the vehicle slid on the slippery pavement and went out of control, went off the right road shoulder and struck a utility pole, snapping it in half.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Dapra an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

DUI Incident

Police said they responded to a report about 12:17 am on January 26 concerning an erratic motorist traveling on Button Shop Road.

Police said that on finding the motorist in question, they investigated and charged Christina Chacon, 33, of 14 Appleseed Drive with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, and driving with unsafe tires.

Police said their investigation showed that Chacon had earlier been involved in a vehicular accident in the parking lot for Pub 25 American Grille, a bar/restaurant at Plaza South at 266 South Main Street.

Police said they released Chacon on $100 bail for a February 11 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Wallet Found

On January 27, police reported that a pink wallet with the word “Juicy” on it was found at the intersection of Main Street and Hanover Road.

The owner may contact police at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841, to claim it.

Cellphone Violation

Police said that they stopped motorist Nateacia McKenzie, 31, of Bridgeport on Route 25 about 2:30 pm on January 27 for a cellphone violation.

Police said that after investigating, they charged McKenzie with illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving, and also with driving with a suspended license, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

McKenzie was released on a written promise to appear in court on February 11.

Accident Information Sought

Police are seeking information from any witnesses to a motor vehicle accident that occurred about 11:30 am on January 28 at Sand Hill Plaza’s northern intersection with South Main Street, which has a traffic signal.

Police said the collision involved a dark-colored Ford Taurus sedan, which was traveling southward on South Main Street, and a dark-colored Subaru Legacy which was exiting the shopping center.

There were no injuries. Police have received conflicting reports about what happened in the accident from the two motorists involved in it and thus are seeking information from any witnesses to the incident.

Cellphone

Police said that at about 11:50 am on January 28, they spotted motorist William Goldbach, 43, of Waterbury using a handheld cellphone while he was driving a 2004 Toyota Tundra pickup truck southward on Main Street, near the police station, so they stopped him near 28 South Main to Street to investigate.

Police said they charged Goldbach with illegal use of handheld cellphone while driving (second offense) and with driving with a suspended license.

Goldbach was released on a written promise to appear in court February 11.

Hattertown Crash

Motorist Jennifer Renzi, 28, of Monroe was driving a 2007 Subaru Impreza sedan southward on a snow-covered Hattertown Road, south of its intersection with Castle Meadow Road, about 5 pm on January 25, when the vehicle slid on the slippery road, went out of control and struck three trees on the right road shoulder, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Renzi for traveling too fast for conditions.

Wasserman Way Incident

Motorist Sylvia George, 73, of Oxford was driving a 2007 Honda CRV SUV westward on Wasserman Way about 6 pm on January 29, when a deer ran out onto the road, resulting in a collision, police said. George was not injured, police said. Police took no enforcement.

BMW DUI MVA

Police report a motor vehicle accident that involved multiple impacts at about 1:36 am on January 30 on Philo Curtis Road in the area between its intersections with Elana Lane and Bishop Circle.

Police said motorist Mary Jane McNamara, 52, of 16 Brandywine Lane was driving a 2005 BMW 545 sedan southward on Philo Curtis Road, when the auto went off the left road shoulder and struck two road signs and several rocks, after which the auto crossed back over the road and then went off the right shoulder and struck several large rocks, a wooden fence, several trees, a steel fence for a swimming pool, and a shed, which is well off Philo Curtis Road, before coming to rest on property at 2 Bishop Circle.

McNamara was not injured, police said. After investigating, police charged her with driving under the influence and making a restricted turn.

Following arrest processing, police released McNamara on $100 bail for a February 13 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.
