The next Inter-District Community Dance Project, combining students from Newtown and Region 15 (Southbury and Middlebury), and sponsored by Washington (Conn.)-based After School Arts Program (ASAP) begins December 2.afterschoolartsprogram.orgVisit

Members of the world renowned dance company Pilobolus will join local students in grades 5-6 for the project.

The classes, which will meet most Wednesdays from 4 to 5:30 pm, until February 17, will alternate between Reed Intermediate School in Newtown and Gainfield Elementary School in Southbury. There are no classes scheduled for December 23 or 30.

Students will be bussed when the classes are not at their home schools. Pick up at the end of classes will be where the classes are held.

High school students will be on the buses and will help in the classes.

The classes will be "exhilarating and collaborative," says ASAP Executive Director Joanne Torti. "This is a one of kind chance to work with the Pilobolus Dance Company."

The project will culminate in a pair of full-scale performances, February 19-20 at Pomperaug High School in Southbury, offering a chance for students to showcase their work while dancing alongside Pilobolus company members.

Fees for the 11-week program are $132, and scholarships are available. In addition to the regular classes and performances, a dress/tech rehearsal is planned for Thursday, February 18.
