Suspicious Incident

Police report a suspicious incident that occurred on the night of January 4, along roads extending from Danbury to Newtown.

A woman motorist, who was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee sport-utility vehicle, was being followed by two females in a dark-colored sedan from Danbury to the Newtown police station, where the Jeep driver stopped and reported the matter to police about 7:30 pm on January 4.

The two females in the sedan had followed the Jeep closely and kept on the sedan’s high-beam headlamps, police said.

A partial listing of the sedan’s marker plate may be 602-V—, according to police, who are investigating. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 426-5841.

Jeep Off Road

Motorist Eileen O’Donnell, 51, of 24 Button Shop Road, who was driving a 1988 Jeep Wrangler southward on Huntingtown Road about 7 am January 5, slid off the road and struck a utility pole, police said. The accident caused a localized power outage, police said.

O’Donnell was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Saturn Vs Ford

At about 1:25 am January 9, motorist Christopher Prorock, 25, of 3 Webster Place, who was driving a 1995 Saturn sedan eastward on Route 302, just east of Shelly Road, rounded a curve and crossed the road’s center line, police said.

The Saturn collided head-on with a westbound 2000 Ford Focus sedan driven by David Olson, 22, of Bethel, police said.

Police said there were no injuries. Prorock received an infraction ticket for failure to drive to the right.

Toyota Vs Toyota

About 5:17 pm January 13, motorist Arlene Eisenbach Nowack, 65, of Southbury was driving a 2000 Toyota Corolla eastward near 54 Church Hill Road, when westbound motorist Susan Gillis, 51, of 30 Jeremiah Road, who was driving a 2000 Toyota Sienna, turned in front of the Corolla, resulting in a collision, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Gillis a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Walnut Tree Hill Road

Motorist Catherine Yamin, 55, of 38 Black Bridge Road, who was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy southward on Walnut Tree Hill Road, near Patriot Ridge Road, about 4:30 pm January 13, encountered a deer, which had run onto the road, police said.

The auto and the deer collided. Conditions were wet and foggy at the time. Yamin was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Honda Accident

Motorist Vinicius A. Bastos Martins, 22, of Danbury, who was driving a 1996 Honda Accord northward on Ridge Road about 7 am on January 12, turned onto Spring Road, but lost control of the auto and then struck a tree near 3 Spring Road, police report.

Martins did not report the crash and called a tow truck to the scene, police said. A third party called police to tell them about the accident.

 Police went to the scene to investigate. Martins received a minor hand cut, but refused medical attention, police said. Police charged Martins with driving without a license, making a restricted turn, and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Dodge and Deer

Motorist Lynn Marchetti, 47, of 22 South Main Street, who was driving a 2003 Dodge Neon southward on Currituck Road, near Tunnel Road, about 5:50 pm January 13, encountered a deer that had entered the road, police said. The auto and the deer collided. Police euthanized the injured wildlife. Marchetti was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Black Bridge Road

While traveling westward on Black Bridge Road about 11:47 pm January 14, motorist Amanda Black, 17, of 9 Elana Lane, who was driving a 1993 Honda Accord, slid on the icy pavement, went off the westbound road shoulder and then slid down a small embankment, police said. Police issued her a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Sport-Utility Crash

About 8:15 am January 12, motorist Lauri Ann Scott, 44, of 28 High Bridge Road, who was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe southward on New Lebbon Road, encountered icy pavement and lost control of the vehicle, police report.

The Chevrolet struck a rock wall along the northbound road shoulder. Scott was not injured. Police verbally warned her for making an improper turn.

Buick MVA

Motorist Farland Fansher, 87, of 4 Kale Davis Road, who was driving a 1997 Buick Park Avenue westward on Osborne Hill Road about 8 am January 11 during foggy, wet conditions, lost sight of the roadway and struck some rocks along the right side of the road, police said. Fansher was not injured. Police issued Fansher a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Truck Vs SUV

About 2:40 pm January 12, trucker John Manforte, 45, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2000 International truck westward on Dodgingtown Road, stopped in preparing to back into a driveway there, police said.

Westbound motorist Ricardo Jarrin, 53, of Danbury, who was driving a 1995 Jeep Wrangler, attempted to go around the truck, police added. The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Manforte a written warning for unsafe backing.

Church Hill Crash

About 5:11 pm January 14, near 46 Church Hill Road, during wet road conditions, traffic stopped suddenly, after which westbound motorist Meghan Hedge, 21, of Oxford, who was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, slid into the rear end of a westbound 2000 Acura Integra, driven by Shannon Kennedy, 17, of 12 Rose Lane, police said.

There were no injuries. Hedge received a written warning for following too closely.

Botsford Collision

 Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Botsford Hill Road and Swamp Road about 3:50 pm January 15.

The collision involved a 1999 Chrysler Sebring driven by Lauren Blomberg, 21, of 34 Botsford Hill Road, and a 2005 Nissan Altima driven by Aaron Kirsch, 21, of Monroe, police said. There were no injuries. Blomberg received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle crash occurred about 7:30 am January 12 on Church Hill Road, near its intersection with Connors Road.

Eastbound motorist Mary Chinn, 45, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2006 Volvo S-40, stopped for traffic conditions, after which eastbound motorist Kerry Glover, 36, of 20 Hi Barlow Road, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Venture, stopped behind the Volvo, police said.

Eastbound motorist Kirt Landy, 48, of Westbrook, who was driving a 1996 Saab 900, struck the rear end of the Chevrolet, pushing the Chevrolet into the rear end of the Volvo, police said. There were no injuries. Landy received an infraction ticket for traveling at an unsafe distance.

I-84 Accident

Motorist Shawn Ruppert, 26, of Freeville, N.Y., who was driving a 1998 Pontiac eastward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 9, at about 4:40 am January 13, lost control of the auto, entered the median and hit a guardrail, state police report. Ruppert was not injured. State police warned Ruppert for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Icy Ramp

Motorist Michelle Dunlap, 18, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2002 Dodge Neon on westbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 on-ramp about 6:30 am January 11, lost control of the auto on an icy curve and struck guardrailing, state police said. Dunlap was not injured. State police warned her for traveling unreasonably fast.

Exit 11 Crash

About 8:12 am January 11, motorist Mendi Selmani, 34, of New Milford, who was driving a 2002 Honda Civic, lost control of the vehicle on black ice on the Exit 11 on-ramp of Interstate 84, state police said. The Honda then struck concrete barrier rails along both sides of the Exit 11 on-ramp. 

Sandy Hook firefighters went to the scene. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Selmani to Danbury Hospital for treatment of a back injury. State police said Selmani was traveling unreasonably fast.

SUV Accident

Motorist Ryne Friedman, 17, of 35 Greenleaf Farms Road, who was driving a 2002 GMC Yukon eastward on Greenleaf Farms Road about 1 pm January 16, lost control of the vehicle and went off the road, striking a fence near 50 Poverty Hollow Road, according to police.

Friedman was not injured. Police issued Friedman a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Honda Hits Honda

Motorist Louise Beauregard, 53, of 65 West Street, who was driving a 2001 Honda CRV southward on Dinglebrook Lane about 8 am January 12, slid on an icy curve, went out of control and collided with a parked, unoccupied 2002 Honda Civic near 3 Dinglebrook Lane, police report. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Gasoline Theft

Police said they received a report of a theft of pumped gasoline from the Citgo gas station at 151 South Main Street on the afternoon of January 13, after which they investigated. Police said they located a motorist on Queen Street who was suspected of having stolen that gasoline earlier.

Police said they charged Nickie Alberghini, 19, of Monroe with sixth degree larceny for the alleged theft of gasoline and also with driving while under suspension.

Police said Alberghini is slated to appear January 27 in Danbury Superior Court to answer those two charges.

Police said Alberghini also was wanted by Thomaston police on a charge of passing a bad check.

Super Stop & Shop

Police report that at 12:30 pm January 15, they received a call from Super Stop & Shop store detectives informing them that they had a shoplifting suspect in their custody.

Police said the store detectives informed them that the suspect had price-scanned and paid for only a portion of the grocery order that she had bagged and then took past the store’s checkout registers.

Police charged Susan Gaspar, 49, of Trumbull with sixth degree larceny. Gaspar was released for a January 31 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Ford Explorer

While driving a 2000 Ford Explorer southward on South Main Street, near Simm Lane, Vincent Nistico, Jr, 44, of Waterbury lost control of the vehicle on the snowy road and struck a sign, a utility pole, and a tree at about 5:45 am January 16, police said.  

Ambulance volunteers transported Nistico to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries. Police issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Scudder Road

About 6 am January 16, motorist Marlon Robinson, 38, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1991 Ford Explorer southward on Scudder Road, lost control of the vehicle on the snowy road, crossed the road’s centerline and struck a utility pole, police said. Robinson was not injured. Police issued Robinson a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve.

Great Ring Road

About 10:53 am on January 15, motorist Arthur Norton, Jr, 41, of 3 Indian Hill Lane was driving a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder northward on Great Ring Road, police said.

At that time, Charles Morgan, Jr, 45, of 9 Mt Pleasant Terrace was driving a large 1990 GMC town snowplow truck on Camelot Crest, police said.

As the town truck turned onto Great Ring Road from Camelot Crest, the Nissan veered to avoid a collision, but the Nissan skidded into a utility pole, police said. The GMC and the Nissan did not make contact, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Norton a written warning for making an improper turn.

Hawleyvlle Road

Police report a two-vehicle accident on northbound Hawleyville Road, near the on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84, about 1:30 am January 14. Motorist Tina Aucella, 38, of Southbury, who was driving a 1999 Acura 3.2-TL, drove into the rear end of a 1997 Infiniti I-30 driven by Dulce Roy, 40, of Waterbury, police said. There were no injuries. Aucella received an infraction ticket for following too closely.

Warrant

On January 17, police arrested Christina Datin, 25, of 14 Johnny Appleseed Drive, charging her with second degree failure to appear in court and with third degree assault. The assault charge stems from a 2005 case, police said. Datin was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court.

Mailbox

Sometime between 3 pm January 17 and 7:15 am January 18, someone caused $250 worth of damage to a mailbox positioned at 47 Platts Hill Road, police report. Police are investigating.

Icy Road

Motorist Caitlin Williams, 38, of 13 Sturges Road, who was driving a 2002 Subaru Impreza northward near 33 Mt Pleasant Road about 10:15 pm January 18, encountered an icy area, lost control, went across the road and struck a utility pole, police said. Williams was not injured. Police verbally warned her for traveling too fast for conditions.

Police Car Accident

Police report a three-vehicle accident involving a town police vehicle about 6:30 pm January 16 on eastbound Church Hill Road, at its intersection with the Exit 10 eastbound I-84 ramps.

Police said that police officer Andrew Stinson, 29, was stopped a red traffic signal in a marked 2003 Ford Crown Victoria police car, which carried Baro, the police department’s police dog.

Eastbound motorist H.B. Mahalingaiah, 58, of Southbury, who was driving a 2000 Honda Accord, then hit the rear end of the police car, police said.

After that initial impact, eastbound motorist Vera Cherepinsky, 28, of 7 Cobblers Mill Road, who was driving a 2002 Chrysler Sebring, struck the rear end of the Honda, pushing the Honda into the rear end of the police car, police said. There were no injuries.

Police issued Mahalingaiah an infraction ticket for following too closely. Police gave Cherepinsky a written warning for following too closely.
