Katie Abromovitch scored 33 points – 10 of those in overtime – to lead Denmo’s to a 57-51 win over Walsh Logging to capture The Gym At Newtown Women’s Basketball League championship.

With the score tied 46-46, Abromovitch hit her first four free throws of the overtime session to put Denmo’s up by two and then added six more points in the final seconds to help Denmo’s put the game away.

Abromovitch finished with 33 points, 10 rebounds and a steal.

It was a see-saw battle through the first half, with Walsh Logging taking a 23-18 lead at the break. Walsh continued to hold on to the lead in the second half as both teams struggled from the free throw line (Denmo’s shot 16-of-28 while Walsh hit just 10-of-25), but Denmo’s began chipping away at the lead on the strength of some tough defense and a couple of three-pointers by Abromovitch.

Walsh was at a disadvantage heading into the OT session, though, as Valerie Light – with 19 points and five rebounds – fouled out.

For Denmo’s, Holly Ferguson scored nine points with 10 rebounds and a couple of steals. Kim Powell chipped in with six points, five rebounds, five steals, and four blocks. Caroline Ward, Steph Trolle and Denise Brough combined for nine points and eight rebounds.
