Management Assistance For Nonprofits

The Volunteer Center serving Western Connecticut has received a $5,000 grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation in support of the Management Assistance Program. This grant will enable The Volunteer Center to address the need for more qualified, diverse volunteer candidates for nonprofit boards and the need for training of managers to implement effective volunteer programs.

The objective of the Management Assistance Program is to enhance the abilities of nonprofits to efficiently and effectively achieve their mission.

The Management Assistance Program (MAP) has two key components: recruitment and referral of nonprofit board candidates and comprehensive volunteer management training.

The Volunteer Center recruits and refers qualified volunteers to serve on local nonprofit boards of directors.

The Volunteer Management Training series will begin registration for the spring sessions, beginning in mid-April. This series concentrates on the creation, organization, and implementation of managing volunteer programs in nonprofit organizations.  The Points of Light Foundation and The Volunteer Center National Network developed this Volunteer Management Training Series for the exclusive delivery by Volunteer Centers nationwide. Through these workshops The Volunteer Center will build the skills of organizations to utilize volunteers effectively. The topics of the six courses that comprise the series are: Understanding Volunteering, Planning Your Volunteer Program, Recruiting and Placing Volunteers, Orienting and Training Volunteers, Supervising Volunteers, and Evaluating Your Volunteer Program.
